Fiat Meets Final Condition For Takeover Of Chrysler
Fiat SpA today announced it has accomplished the last of three goals set for it by the U.S. government as a condition of its takeover of Chrysler Group LLC: commencing production of a vehicle with an unadjusted combined fuel economy rating of 40 miles per gallon.

That vehicle is the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart, which will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show next week. Having "irrevocably committed" to producing the fuel-efficient compact, Fiat's ownership of once-bankrupt Chrysler has now been increased from 53.5 percent to 58.5 percent, in accordance with the 2009 bailout brokered by the Obama administration.

The 9 speed auto? The Dart is also most likely "optimized"for the EPA test while the 500 is not. Even with all of that I think you are right, it should get 40 highway and not 40combined.

Reading the article it does sound like they are claiming something like 36 city and 45 highway, we'll see soon if that is true.

Figured it out, unadjusted means CAFE fuel economy which is quite a bit higer than what you see on the window sticker.

Blazinboy-Mercedes does not own anything of Chrysler today. When Chrysler reorganized out of Chapter 11 BK it was strictly Fiat, the US government and the UAW.
