Do You Believe It? Toyota Says They Will Be Back On Top In 2012 Without Discounting
Industry watchers have been predicting it. And competitors have been holding their breath waiting for the hammer to drop.

But a top Toyota official says the auto maker has no plans to start a price war – and aggressive incentive programs won’t be needed to regain its lost share in 2012.

Toyota relinquished more than two points of market penetration last year as the tsunami in Japan and subsequent flooding in Thailand hampered supply lines, and lingering effects of the 2009 sudden-acceleration scandal still had some buyers shying away from the auto maker’s showrooms.

Angryinch1, I know you agree with this article, but it is unfortunately doubtful that Honda/Acura will see huge gains. With Consumer Reports basically giving Honda a thumbs-down with the Civic, Honda/Acura is not likely to have huge sales gains in 2012. Neither will the re-designed Accord threaten the re-designed Camry. Honda has been getting away with using the cheapest parts in the manufacturing of their vehicles, and their president had to apologize for doing it. An abundance of road noise penetrates into the cabins of every Honda vehicle like no other manufacturer. They thought that people will buy Hondas no matter what. No matter how cheap their interiors are, or the parts that they use? In their home market, Honda is in third place, behind Toyota and Nissan!
Their own market knows their own products!

You trust Consumer Reports? trust common sence,I believe CR is very political, they have always recommender Toyota even though there was major engine sludge problems, google it, there have been class action lawsuits, it has been very hush hush, back in 2007 I was set on buying a Corola, after much research the Civic out performed it in every category by a landslide, also my Japanese friend tells my Honda is number 1 in Japan.

Special financing and "red bow" promotions = discounting

Toyota should ask itself why is it so important to be the world's largest automotive manufacturer?

I don't think Toyota intended to be the world's largest manufacturer. It just happened because of demand for their cars and the natural thing to do is to step up production to meet demand. Any type of manufacturer would do the same for any industry. Somewhere along the way, Toyota focused too much on quantity and their quality was neglected. I think Toyota learned their lesson the hard way with all these recalls and they are now more focused than ever. I hope.

Toyota has had a very bad year and this statement is just a spin for all of the blind Toyota fans, I would buy a Hyundai any day over a Toyota, although the Tacoma is ok, although very bad on gas.
