What's MISSING At Cadillac To Really Make Them A TRUE Player In The Luxury Car Market?
As long as I remember I was always fascinated with Cadillac.

I grew up in Buffalo, New York and my dad owned a deli on the West Side which was a big hangout for the 'GoodFellas'.

If you've ever seen the move 'A Bronx Tale', well, I WAS that kid.

And most of those Buffalo gangsters drove Caddie's and Lincoln's.

But a lot has changed over the years in that neighborhood and in our world.

Both brands have really slid down the slippery slope.

Of the two Caddy is on top now but we all know Lincoln wants to make a comeback.

And although Cadillac is respectable in the market they are not exactly ripping it up.

Truthfully, they are pretty stagnant.

So our question is what do they need to do to get to the next level?

What's missing?

Is it even possible to someday truly challenge the BIG BOYS in the space or do you think in two years they will be gone??

Discuss...

a big rear drive luxury sedan is the only way for Cadillac to be "in the game" to rival LS460, 7 series, and S-Class. IMO Cadillac has been focusing on performance luxury when they should be focusing on just Luxury.

Fully agree for RWD, goed the same for Lincoln. And Lincoln should have formality, not sporty porsche-like fastbacks. Furthermore both brands need more distinction in engines and suspensions and not be Chevy+ or Ford+. The economies of scale for using modular platforms does not equal the added brand value by own identity.

A large sedan (series 62) , a large coupe (de ville) and a knock 'm dead
large convertible (Eldorado) all with size, over the top interiors and bright in your face colors except for sedans in black. Stop denying where
you came from and who you are...embrace it !

Lincoln, first, needs a true design direction and cohesion across their lineup. They need brand identity and a lineup that is competitive and shows not only their heritage, but what is possible for the future of the brand. Their current lineup shows glimmers of hope here and there, but there seems to be no consistency with their products, IMO.

Cadillac needs its large RWD flagship, which is currently under development. That will be the car that will essentially vault Cadillac into the competitive stratosphere that is so deserves to be in. The XTS will be the next step in fulfilling that and get it one step closer. However, Cadillac is WAY, WAY ahead of Lincoln. With that being said, Lincoln has the potential to be great. Cadillac has been making all the right moves to compete on a global scale and that is what Lincoln lacks, both in performance and design. With products like the CTS/CTS-V, the new ATS, XTS and Escalade, you cannot deny that Cadillac is handling its business and has its sights set on winning and that, I love. Cadillac's future seems bright, especially considering upcoming products such as the next CTS, Escalade, ELR and large flagship sedan.

All in all, I'd like to see both brands succeed!

To *my* eyes, Cadillac is lacking a sense of luxury and style. But what I, specifically, perceive is irrelevant. What the luxury car market, en mass, perceives is much more important. So far, they perceive Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes (in alphabetic order) as the luxury brands.

Love how one second you're romanticizing the cars used by criminals and the next second you're bemoaning their diminished status. Almost sounds as if you're wondering how Cadillac and Lincoln can regain these criminals as customers again. Bigger trunks?

You don't need bigger trunks. You have large SUVs for that now.

What's missing at Cadillac (GM)is a focus on the customer and an intent to do a good job for the customer. GM salesmen are taught from day one that their job is to manipulate the customer. Whether new car or service - customers are nothing more than victims to be held up for the maximum possible. No thanks.

I appreciate your opinion. However, having owned a car dealership and being in the business of buying for consumers, as well as myself, I find that statement untrue. ALL dealers manipulate consumers, not just GM. That is an brand-wide issue.

"COOL" is what's missing. Nobody wants to say they drive a cadillac.......

Caddy has a TIRED look that has NOT changed since 2006.
Cadillacs look like dolled up Chevy's and that is a fact.

Why pay premium dollars for an over dressed Chevy?

You can dress up a sow, but it will still end up with just a pig.
