Revenue Hungry Cities Begin Placing Traffic Cameras On School Buses

Revenue Hungry Cities Begin Placing Traffic Cameras On School Buses
First it was traffic lights and stop signs--now cities are outfitting school buses with cameras to catch drivers ignoring the rules of the road.

Getting caught behind a school bus is another ring of hell for many drivers. And the later you are to that morning meeting, the more likely it seems you will end up behind one that stops every hundred yards or so to pick up another gaggle of kids. Driving around the stopped school bus would be against the law, but that doesn't stop many drivers from doing it, putting the lives of children at risk. Now, some communities are fighting back by installing traffic cameras on the bus to catch violators in the act.

seems appropriate in this case

I agree, it's not like they are installing mobile radar cameras on them.

It's not being done on the grounds of safety. It's being done because the cities are cash strapped. Nothing can get americans to move faster than money, not even safety. If the town's weren't broke you wouldn't see the cameras on any school bus.

If a person knows they will get a ticket by running the school bus stop sign - and then don't run it -- it certainly is a safety issue -- if it stops one person from running the stop sign, and possibly hitting a child, then it is a good idea....and why shouldn't someone get a ticket for breaking the law if they do run the stop sign?

I never said that it wasn't a good idea. You missed my point.

And where did I say that a person shouldn't get a ticket for breaking the law and running the stop sign? How did even come up with that?

Because you are spinning the line about it not being for safety but for revenue. Bull. This one is purely for safety. The quantity of drivers that do this is fairly small, so there will be little revenue. But the safety factor of a car passing a bus with the sign out is huge.

This is a great use of the technology.

"Because you are spinning the line about it not being for safety but for revenue."

- No spin. It's either for revenue or the title of this article ("Revenue Hungry Cities Begin Placing Traffic Cameras On School Buses") is misleading.

Either way, If I think its for revenue, or if I think that it's for safety. Based off of that, I still don't see how someone can ask me "why shouldn't someone get a ticket for breaking the law if they do run the stop sign?" I never said that anyone shouldn't get a ticket. How do you make that connection? I'm lost.

I don't see how me thinking that this is for revenue and not for safety means that I think that it's a bad idea, and that people shouldn't get tickets if they run school bus stop signs. How can someone's mind even come to that conclusion?

I don't think this is a bad idea. It seems appropriate.

I agree our freedom is slowly being taken, but it isn't Obama, its the greedy CEO's and politicians (republicans) so the rich 1% can rule and control us. I'm ready to move to Norway!
