IF Lexus Releases A Production LF-LC, Should It Be Priced Like A 6-Series OR Go Up Against The 3-Series?
One car that made an impressive 2012 Detroit Auto Show debut was Lexus' LF-LC. Although to me it looks a lot like an LFA and the Toyota GT 86 got together in a bad romance, I have to say the end result is pretty slick.

And it's not all just on the exterior either, the interior is a impeccably detailed space with wood, leather and carbon fiber in all of the right places.

But at the end of the day what really matters is who a production LF-LC would go head-to-head with. That's why we're here to ask you:

What price do YOU think the LF-LC would be competitive at? Somewhere in the luxury grand touring space, like a BMW 6-Series?

OR.

Should Lexus go after the 3-Series, C-Class, A5, G37 and the rest of the lot?

What price would YOU buy one at?

Neither! this should be a class of its own. It's too short to have a back seat. Price it around the M3 with massive power and performance, that's how you'll kill the competitors.

Judging from that kids' backseat, I believe this one is after 911 segment. And if LEXUS can keep it around 3000 lb, then it might be a solid contender.

3 or 6 are too practical to be a sports car.

00R is on the dose again.... Soon she'll say a new Ferrari should be priced like a 3 series.

Should be the next SC.

I'd buy this instead of the new SL, that's for sure. And, I've had SL's for twenty years.

@Doc

What is it about THIS car that makes you want to pass on the SL?

At Lexus there is a need for both...a stronger 3 serirs competitor and
a luxury coupe/convertible for the mass markets. This one better suited for the latter.

That would be the next IS.....

This will be an 85 to 110k priced car. Three series? What a joke......

Who's the retard that actually thinks that this car could be priced like a BMW 3-series?

@Lex

Pump the brakes, chief.

This is a CONCEPT. The sky's the limit with what Lexus could do with this product when it goes to market.

Understood. But in order for the car pictured to come in at 3-series pricing, it wouldn't look anywhere near what that concept looks like now. In concept form (pictured), it looks like a 100k+ car. But that's just my opinion. Is there any current 3-series priced car that comes close to looking like what we see above?

When I see the car pictured above, I'm not thinking 3-series competitor. Guess I'm different?

Remember the Ford Mustang Concept from way back then...

A botched job, IMHO.

"This Lexus is stylish and cutting edge. Not intended for the boring German crowd."

- And you call me a troll? LOL!!! Your entire reply reeks of Lexus Fanboy.

This is a concept model and is nothing to compare with a 3 or 6 series . I don't think Lexus has the money and power to put this thing under production.

So you think a car that looks like the $375,000 LF-A, that is named like the $375,000 LF-A, could be a competitor for the 3 series.

Really.

It's too big to be placed in the 3-Series segment and the Toyota's sunk cost into the platform means it is also too expensive to priced near the 3 or 4-Series.

This car will not make it into production. The styling is too polarizing for for the Lexus market, therefore, Toyota would not sell enough, priced to compete against its correct competition: BMW 6-Series, to justify producing the vehicle.

This car is not enough of a game changer to steal sells away from the leaders in the luxury coupe/convertible segment: BMW 6-Series, Porsche 911, Audi R8, MB SL or even the MB E series coupe/convertible. This car is just a styling exercised based on a platform that Toyota sunk too much money in: the LF-A.

who can say? it's an early prototype with no mention of what it is, when it will be made or what's under the hood. stupid guessing game.

agent 00R, I'd buy this instead of the new SL because:
this is
stylish, modern, clean lines, something that looks 21st century.
While the SL is
trying so, to emulate the SLS(ugh), looks dated and slow, nothing dynamic. You asked for opinions. It's my $100K, and I'd choose this new Lexus over the new SL.

Enough about the SC400. That was 20 years ago. Lexus dropped the ball with the SC430. They could have set a style direction for Lexus to follow, but that car was just plain and boring.

Styling, styling, styling. That's why I'd buy this over the new SL. This is magic. And, very STUDLEY.

I think it's ok what 00R was getting at. Should Lexus execute it top notch to compete with the likes of a 6, SL competitor. Or should they scale it back and make it an IS Coupe, 3 series competitor.

I know it sounds crazy but there would be a bigger market in it for lexus to produce this as an IS coupe variant.

I hope I'm not the only one who notices people buying less expensive cars. My neighbor who has only owned Mercedes S classes for the past 20 years, just bought a Hyundai Genesis.

The skin would still have been beautifully executed without all the tuner-style scoop and scallop crap that is on it now. That adds production cost while taking away from its appearance. If I was 18 maybe I'd be into the body bling, but not at 40. Unless they find a way to price it down-market (which seems highly unlikely) they'd better get with the program and push the styling past adolescence.

As for comparing this to Bimmers...seriously, get a clue. The Hyundai Elantra now sports more interesting and modern styling than the entire Bimmer lineup. BMW definitely targets an audience that likes to blend in with the surroundings rather than stand out.
