REVIEW: Edmunds tests the BMW 335

BMW finally learining how to use turbos, using the same technology that Audi has had for the past couple of years. Better late than never. Nice exhaust, good performance as well probably. However, I wan't call it beautiful or anything, some parts still look akward.

Should be nice....for $50K.

Looks Great with the M-Sport

Last couple of years? Audi's been doing turbo's since you were in your mothers womb Chewy. Anyway I peronally think that BMW are just bitting Audi's technology with intention to steal a couple of Audi's sales here and there. The car looks o.k, but as usual, d*** riders will buy it for the name and status and not for its looks or quality.

TLOTR and Chewy, BMW was using turbo engine's in their cars before Volkswagen had even given birth to Audi. BMW discontinued using turbo engines or supercharged engines because they felt it was an easy/cheap way to gain extra HP in their car's.

Only until now has BMW decided to go back to using turbocharged engines because of the major HP race that's currently going on.

Besides you want to talk about stolen technology, Where did Audi get the idea for DSG? BMW's SMG. Where did Mercede's, Audi, and hundred's of car company's get their Xenon headlight technology from? Where did Audi's idea for MMI come from? BMW's i-drive.

If anything Audi's "Never Follow" slogan should be; "Never Follow Anyone but BMW!" So don't go on about BMW copying Audi, BMW's the benchmark, people copy them.

Children! Does it matter who's taking what and who's following whom?? The bottomline is that we car enthusiasts BENEFIT from all this "stealing". Nobody wants just one car company to be good. We want Audi, BMW, MB to be constantly challenging one another, "stealing" someone else's innovation and improving it, sharing technology, evolving, competing, etc. We want Audi to be better than BMW in some things so that BMW will try to be better in other things, and same with Lexus and MB.

We do NOT want any one car company to be so far ahead of the others that complacency sets in.

I would love to see a new A3 engine that beats BMW's turbo-six and I'd love to see MB's diesel engine blow both those engines away and I'd love to see how Lexus responds to all these challenges with some new fangled hybrid.

It's fun for us to play favorites with our loyalties, but to be honest, at the end of the day, we should all be glad that no single car company stays on top of the game for too long.

Quizz that's a very good point. The competition between Audi, BMW, MB, and Porsche doesn't bother me at all. These are four (4) luxury car manufactures that know what their doing!!! It's the Japanese luxury manufactures that I have a problem with. Japanese luxury car manufacture owe everything they have to the Germans and will not admit it. Audi, BMW, MB and Porsche bring new innovation and technology to the table through competition.

The Japanese competitors bring nothing to the table accept the hybrid and inflated Horsepower (HP). And the hybrid is questionable, I believe Bosh had the patents and Toyota stole it. They only take innovations and technology from the table and attempt to persuade Americans their car is on the same level as the Germans.

Please don't misunderstand me, I have respect for the Japanese luxury car manufactures. Infiniti makes a nice looking ride (G35 coupe). But it would be much nicer if those guys would try and find their own identify and stop with the slogans "The Japanese BMW" "The all new M" "The Ultimate Design Machine" all these are taken from BMW and there's lots more. The market place is diluted with much of the same product instead of something new and different. The dilution is from the Japanese luxury car manufacture replicating what the Germans have done. Being a BMW enthusiasts it does matter to me how is taking what and who's following whom.

BMW has now addressed the only 3 series shortcoming -- HP and torque. This new 335 will be amazing, and all without significant sacrifices in economy.
Oh, and SixxFive, prices are already released. 335 starts at $40,600, retail.

The Japanese Manufacturers have been improving their performance charateristics, but seem reluctant to really spend the money in R&D to develop a true German competitor. The new IS350 and the G35 are the closest vehicles they have come up with, but still lack the characteristics that seperates a drivers car from a riders car. Essentially, a Japanese vehicle has everything you want at a red light--a BMW or Audi has everything you want when it turns green.

BMW DESIGNS ARE THE BEST: STRIKING, FUTURISTIC, FASHIONABLE, YOUNG MINDED, SPORTY!

You know, all you people who are complaining about BMW's recent design is just jealous of them! BMW is the no.1 luxury car brand in the world and the 3, 5, 7 sold the most cars in its market segment in 2005 worldwide, beating Merc and Audi BY FAR!

So this simply says it, BMW's design is the way the people want it, togather with reliable first class innovation, quality and character, it can be nothing but the choice of sensible and educated buyers! The new 3 Series design is a work of art, look at the sharp front and muscular side, what car in the world can match that??? It is something potent, first and striking. It stands out from the normal cars like Merc and Audi!

That's why BMW's 3 is World car of the year and top 3 for World car design of the year! If you want to moan, why not try the ugly CLS, look what Sh1t it looks like: ugly headlights with an overcurved shoulderline (looks like it has been crashed from front and rear), ugly rear lights, too! Shame, what a piece of TRASH! The other one is the new S class - headlights so dull and fogged, can't they ever come up with something orginal and exciting?

I suppose because they appeal to the almost dead old population, who still think that Merc is a respected brand! I don't even want to get to the snoek fish degin of the Audi grille and the crying taillights of the A4, the sales show! By the way, why did Merc copy the iDrive, bootlid and interior design of the 7 if it was so ugly to some antiBMW people? Bangle is King and he should stay! BMW is not BMW without his works of art! Too bad for those who do not like it, you must then close your eyes, but the majority of thsi world loves it and that's what matters. We cannot help it that you lack taste!

I think that it is great that they going with some boost. They always want that smooth acceleration but i think they will be pleased that the crowd is pleased.
By the way you know as soon as it comes out there will be an underground video of it going against some sti or evo and the crowd will go oh man that 60K car got smoked. But if you could afford it why not go with the bimmer. Way too many people still don't understand. Anyone can go fast its the overall look and reputation. I would rather have 2003 e55 than an evo or skyline with 1000 horsepower. Good job BMW.
