REVIEW: 2007 Lexus RX350 SUV

From somewhere west of swank and south of sumptuous comes the “S” in this SUV. Lexus doesn’t do sinew and sweat, if that’s what you’re thinking a sport-ute ought to be. This is “sport” as in something off the Ralph Lauren rack.

The perfect small family car at a great luxury price. I love cruising in my parent's RX300 that they bought 5 years ago. It's a classic.

My wife's RS330 has 20,000 mile and only been in for regular oil changes. It could use a bit more power though. Not sure if the bump in the 350 is enough.

And mromar - the electronic nannies kick in way before you would get into the situation you describe. Trust me - I've tried to get that thing sideways. Lexus skid control is way too restrictive. Plus it's an SUV - The x3 handles exactly the same - we cross shopped both. X3 rode like a truck.

BMcD, I have to take exception with you on the X3 comparison. First off, mromar is right-it can happen. It happend to me--far before the "electronic nannies" kicked in. It put me, my daughter and my son in the hospital. Trust me, I know what Im doing behind the wheel, but the machine didnt. I bought an X3 for my daughter because the dealer let me take if 24 hours and I put that dam thing through the ringer-in rain. The Xdrive was magnificent-it was proactively changing torque split according to conditions unlike the lexus which is reactionary. The DSC, when necessary, fired when it had to, and was almost imperceptible because it worked WITH Xdrive, not because of it. I will never in my life own another Lexus-they are top heavy, terribly balanced (2/3 of the engine is BEYOND the front axel as well as the battery), and the handling in panic situations is reactionary instead of proactive.
