WHO Makes The HIGHEST QUALITY, LONGEST LASTING Premium Cars Today? And WHO Makes The WORST?

WHO Makes The HIGHEST QUALITY, LONGEST LASTING Premium Cars Today? And WHO Makes The WORST?
There are a lot of good vehicles for sale on the market today across many categories.

Premium cars, Luxury cars, Sports cars, etc.

And most perform as advertised and each brand has its stable of loyal customers.

But one question today is not so easy to answer.

WHO Makes The HIGHEST QUALITY, LONGEST LASTING Premium Cars Today? And WHO Makes The WORST?

For a while the Asians had the lead on reliability and for many years the key sales point of a German car was that it would last forever and it was built like a tank.

It's 2012 now and the game and placements have changed.

So if you had to answer based on what's out there today, WHO would win and who would lose.

Let us know below.

And as always, be as detailed as possible to why you chose what you did.

What's with Lexus fans on this site always trying to convince everyone how much smarter they are than everyone else? Are Rolls Royce or Ferraris reliable? They don't have to be. Luxury means buying what expresses your desires and if you like driving, it won't be a Lexus for sure! BMW and Audi aren't luxury? Only if by luxury you mean couch on wheels, but luxury is different things to different people. I've been in all of the brands and each one has their good and bad gizmos. And if you've tried all the cars, you'll notice the Lexus has the worst interior - it won't break, I grant you that, but the materials aren't up there with the German brands and that's why a Lexus costs less.

And when I sit in a Lexus I can see the cheapness. As do the Europeans. It's only the americans who cant see it. And I'm not surprised, the american education system ranks 17th in the world.

“Better yet, Lexus has actually IMPROVED their market share in Europe despite being there less than a DECADE compared to a combined TWO CENTURIES for both Benz and Bimmer!!”

- Again with your lies. Lexus has been in Europe for over a decade. Mid 90’s to be exact.

“And please don't talk cheapness, you drive a Mitsubishi for chrissakes, and I already pointed out in the link comparo of your car vs. a 3-series and it specifically got knocked for it's cheap interior quality....and that was against the LAST 3-series which also got dinged for interior quality against...wait for it...THE IS350!!”

Lexus' recommended service interval *today* is every six months or 5000 miles and unless their competitors have increased their scheduled service frequency, Lexus' scheduled visits are *still* more than twice as often as its competitors. And have a look at a what's involved in a 30000 mile servicing for a 2012 LS460, for example. It's a lot more than just an oil change. Such frequent servicing is a good way to spot problems, though, which keeps Lexus at the top of the reliability surveys.

From my personal experience (my cars only not including my wifes). This are actual issues I've encountered with my cars since after I got commissioned until now. I retired out of the military and currently work as an exec for a pharma co. and drive substantially on an annual basis.

1. 1992 Honda Civic - Owned it for 9 years, 120K when I got rid of it. Besides the normal tear and wear, I had issues with its computer, A/C compressor (twice), rear window motor and and alternator.
2. 2001 VW Passat - Put 90K on this thing and NEVER had and issue!
3. 2005 MB C230 Sport Sedan - 97K, Great car but had to replace the engine head due to loss of compression (this happened at 75K). Paid S3,000 out of pocket!
4. 2009 LS 460 - 76K - Another great car but had to replace the front rotors twice already.
All the maintenance on these cars have been completed per maintenance manual and at the dealerships.
I make my own decisions when I purchase cars, I do not rely on biased magazine opinions (JD P & Consumer Reports) which are NOT written by car enthusiasts but marketing dollars. I personally believe that the way you drive your vehicle will affect the reliability and dependability of it.

Lexus has been in decline way before any Tsunami and even after Tsunami its market share keeps sinking. Since 2006 Lexus' market share in the US Luxury Market (Audi/BMW/MB/Lexus/Infiniti/Acura) has gone from 26% to 18%, steadily year after year. Blaming the weather is a pretty lame EXCUSE.

"Why is it bmw/audi/benz drivers lease their vehicles rather than purchase it?" because some people like to drive the newest technology all the time, and CAN AFFORD TO DO SO. You take the numbers and make your own wrong conclusion. I'd even argue that Lexus drivers only care about reliable transportation, not the dynamics of driving or the enjoyment of riding on the latest technology. That is why Lexus is considered by most to be a BORING brand.

"Why is it Lexus rank #1 for the last 10yrs on conquered sales from other brands?" where did you read this, the Godzilla Gazette? I let sales speak for me, not opinion. Add all the sales for the brands stated above since 2006 and see for yourself. It would serve you well to know what you are talking about.

"People get tired of paying lux prices, but having below junk quality and reliability. (Last week I saw a brand new audi a5, but the driverside LED light was out. If i was the owner..I'd be upset. Because really audi is only known for the LED lights and nothing else. Second, if audi can't even keep a LED light working..what other fundamental and technical issues will I have.) " ... do you know the concept of statistics? ... ill make it plain and simple...if you have one fault out of 10,000 its no big deal, its .0001 of your total. I have seen every brand of car with some fault. Single issues mean squat. So your argument is absolutely WORTHLESS. Look at 10,000 A5's and tell me what % have faulty LEDs then I'll listen.

Lastly, if Audi only has the LEDs then I wonder why it has the FASTEST growing market share, mostly taken away from Lexus ...Audi's market share in 2006 7.3%/ 2011 11.5%/ 2012 YTD 12.7%, Lexus 2006 26%/2011 18.6%/2012 YTD 16.7%.

Audi overtook MB in global LUXURY CAR SALES, and is second ONLY to BMW. Lexus is nowhere on the list. These are FACTS not jealousy based opinions.

BTW, if you so much hate the LEDs then complain to your Lexus dealer because it seems Lexus (and other makers) have absolutely NO CREATIVITY and chose to COPY Audi's lead in lighting styling. I laugh every time I see an IS drive by with the COPYCAT LEDs. Who buys a wannabe anyway???

Had an A6 for 10 years, no major repairs, only maintenance. I did replace the DVD player and had window pinch issues. Other than that, it run as smooth as day one, as quiet as day one and most noticeably it never RUSTED!

RUST is the major difference between Audi's and other Japanese brands. My previous car (before the A6) was an Acura, it lasted many years with many miles, except it seemed it lost power as it got older and it Rusted like an iron block in the middle of Salt Lake!!

Which one would I rather have? I think the choice is clear. Double galvanized steel or aluminum bodies in Audis will last you much much longer than any rustbucket the Japanese make. I'm on my second Audi and no issues whatsoever. Experience always trumps opinionated articles or sponsored biased magazines.

I'll take germans Audi, MB and BMW (in that order) any day over any Japanese rust bucket.

Plus, forums are for those interested in repairing or modifying their cars, so by definition you have a majority of people with problems. This does not represent the overall majority,a nd I think this is evident in Audi rising year over year in reliability ratings and customer satisfaction, not to mention resale value.

In my experience Mercedes holds up the best amongst the Europeans though BMW and Audi aren't far behind. I've never owned a Jaguar so I can't comment on them.

Amongst the Japanese I've had very good experiences with Honda and Acura, which IMO makes much better cars than Toyota (which I owned in the past). Never owned a Nissan, Mazda, Suzuki etc.

But you know, at the end of the day what also matters is how people take care of their cars such as changing the oil at precise intervals etc.
