Do You Believe It? Diesels Projected To Take 10% Of US Market By 2015
U.S. car buyers are expressing growing interest in diesel engines, a Bosch executive says.

Lars Ulrich, director-diesel systems marketing, tells WardsAuto in an interview at the auto show here that Bosch predicts diesel engines will capture 10% of U.S. light-vehicle market by 2015.

That's more bullish than a forecast by Baum and Associates that predicts diesel’s market share will reach only 6.5% by 2015. J.D. Power & Associates forecasts diesel penetration will grow to 7.4% by 2017.

A friend of mine picked me up in Dusseldorf last week in his new Mercedes S Class 350 Diesel. WHAT A ROCKET! Quiet too. The more people that get to sample these new Diesels in person, the more will buy.

Unfortunately it's a chicken and egg problem. People won't buy diesels because they're not around, and dealers don't want diesels because people aren't buying them.

My C70 has a diesel version in Europe i would have loved to have here. Hopefully that projection is correct.

I'll do my part. As soon as the Tiguan TDI is in the US my gas version will be traded in.

Pretty sure that by the end of 2012 BMW will be selling lots more 320/330ds in the USA
Same goes for the 525/530d

MB will also be heavily pushing the 250/350 CDI engines.

Not so sure about Audi as they seem cautious about the US market.

So it is 2012, and diesels are about 0.5%. A diesel supplier predicts this will increase 20X, twenty times(!!!), in 3 years. Slow news day, Autospies?
