Volt Fails To Deliver For Fox Journalist After Running Out Of Power TWICE In Two Days
It costs $46,000. It was built using $50B of your taxpayer dollars. All the ones produced to date have been recalled due to fire issue. And now as an added bonus it won’t even get you to the grocery store and back.

Should the Volt be named the Revolt?

Check out the video for details.

You do know that the Volt was conceived and developed during the Bush 43 administration by Bob Lutz and his skunk team BEFORE the economy tanked, right?

The Volt was not developed with billions of dollars funneled by the Obama administration. That's the point.

The Volt is SUBSIDIZED by OBAMA to push his green agenda despite the failure of this vehicle, THAT IS THE POINT. It is way overpriced, it claimed at one point 100 MPG!!! "slightly" MISLEADING, the technology is not even better than existing hybrids or EVs.

I don't have a beef with the gov LENDING research money to develop this car, but clearly what happened here is that the research DID NOT PAY OUT. This car WAS NOT WORTH THE INVESTMENT. Otherwise they would sell like hotcakes despite the political talk.

Uhm, let's see, 370 miles, 3.6 gallons of gas. Want to see the Prius do that.

Well, I am about to find out eventually and let you know. In the mean time I don't drive 360 miles at a time, I drive 25. With no gas.

Where is "Fijian" at? I'm sure he'd love to come up with an excuse that will somehow lead to it being Toyota's fault.

Actually, it should. Agent009, you got me so mad that I went out one Monday night and bought one last month. It doesn't show 50mi(80km) per full charge, or 40mi(64km), or 35mi(56km), it shows 33mi(53km). I've driven it at 60mph(96km/h) in moderate stop/go traffic for about 32mi(51km) on a full charge on battery power twice with a couple of miles left. Today for my 10 mi(16km) mixed driving commute to work the fully-charged battery came down from 33mi(53km) to 28mi(45km). I have not had to refuel it yet, and have used about a third of the 9.3gal./us(35L) gas tank with about 370mi(595km) on the odometer. It fully charges with the provided portable supply (which can be mounted on a wall) at ~120V/13A in about 9 hours outdoors at 35degF(2degC) and the estimation to full is usually correct within 20 minutes. You think I should return it and claim it a lemon?

Frankly, I am ReVolted by your perpetual BS. If Fox News is your standard for objective car advise you live in a fantasy world.

Man, I stopped watching after the blond started suggesting that the car "broke down" when in reality, it just went into gas mode. There is absolutely no balance in the discussion of this car.

Since when should a thinking person tune into Fox News expecting balanced news?

The car behaved exactly as it was meant to. And he made no mention of any of the car's other attributes. How did it drive? How did it feel? He based his opinion purely on the bailout which had nothing to do with the Volt specifically. That review was a complete joke!

The Volt is not a hybrid like the Prius and if you can buy a new Prius for $20k less than a Volt then maybe you should.

Read the specs and go and drive the cars. Then come back and answer a couple of questions:
1. How far and how fast can each drive on battery alone?
2. How do you charge the battery?
3. What are the type, capacity, and weight of each battery?
4. How is the battery temperature controlled?
5. When the ICE kicks in how is power transferred to the wheels?

EXACTLY alike?!

onumbnutz just became the largest instigator and promotor of gutless Washington corruption and degenerate support of the socialist union frauds.
Government Motors CANNOT build or properly service their cars. odumbo's nationalization of GM and GIVING AWAY Chrysler Corp. to a foreign country is an all time CRIME and subversion of America by the crook, liar and deceiver obama.
obama MUST be thrown into the gutter in 2012 a where he came from.

The socialist and marxist democrat party must be STOPPED from destroying Amreica. The democrats despise the freedom to drive cars and burn gas. They will not stop till they have total control over YOU and your family!

I was just talking to my wife about this and her first response was, "What is Volt?" LOL

So I chuckled a bit then told her what it was. She continued to say, "They need a new marketing guy. They don't advertise it enough."

I'm sick of all car companies, banks, etc... and the government that ripped us off and they're enjoying life while the average American is screwed up and yet the shameless Obama has the nerve to run for presidency again.

If he gets elected again, it shows how STUPID our nation has became.

Japan not only subsidizes their auto industry, they protect them also. They even go as far as to artificially lower the value of the Yen.

All I will say is this technology is in it's infancy and has a long way to go.Whether or not the Nissan Leaf sells more EV's then Chevy sells of the Volt, both, in my opinion, are simply flawed as they stand right now.You are not going to get enough people to want to convert to pure EV's until they meet the same criteria as gasoline vehicles. That is the following:
1)EV's need to have a driving range of a minimum of 200 to 250 miles.
2)The time to recharge them when they run out of juice needs to be cut down from 9 Hours to 10 minutes.
3)The cost of an EV should not be more then a grand more then it's gasoline equivalent.
4)EV's to be attractive should be able to handle as well as gasoline vehicles and be generally fun to drive.
5)Presious metals that have been mined in China need to be found and mined in the US to cut the environmental footprint and the cost to build one. Anyone who buys one today, I believe, is simply in awe of the novelty of owning one,has disposable income to feel that somehow they are making a difference to the environment.
Saying all this in order to advance technology, in order to reduce our depency on foreign oil and oil in general these technologies, however inefficient they are now, have to be continued to be pursued. Otherwise they will not get any better and we as a country will not have a reason to want to switch from gas vehicles to EV's

Largely agree with you, however the EVs are not going to appear suddenly and be fully mature by your gasoline criteria. The infancy development is important and the ability to see them without the gasoline blinds is also important. Every new technology is initially expensive and requires wealthy people to adopt it first.

The question here is are we dealing with legitimate issues or with FUD. I think this AutoSpies posting and comments have answered the question once again unequivocally, it is FUD.

Have they?! And how much money was poured into developing EVs in the past century as compared to ICE vehicles?

Joe_LimonJoe_Limon - 2/8/2012 1:10:30 PM

I'm guessing there has been more battery/electric motor research then there has been ICE research. Electric motors and batteries are everywhere, your cell phones, every car has numerous electric motors powering various functions, almost every industry uses electric "tech" the same is not true with ICE.

vdivvdiv - 2/8/2012 2:50:44 PM

One thing is to develop batteries for your watch, another is to develop batteries for a car, develop the motors, develop the control system, the cooling system, the safety systems, develop the infrastructure to charge the EV, develop the know-how for customer and technical support, and make them all affordable. The ICE is used by everyone, everywhere, in their car, in their motorcycle, in buses, in trucks, in diesel trains (serial hybrids!), in construction equipment, in a lawn-mower, snow-blower, weed whacker, chain-saw, backup power generator, pressure washer, etc.

Your argument is the same as that since the ancient Egyptians were burning oil and had horse carriages with wheels that they had already figured out the laws of thermodynamics and how to make an ICE.

Oh, another blame Bush feeble minded obnumbnutz supporter.
That blame, blame blame gets really old and it is a sure sign of gutless weakness and failure on odumbo's behalf.

The Volt has been supported by $50 billion in taxpayer dollars plus $7,500 in subsidies for every one sold. Any that have sold were bought by the odumbo administration. They get only about 40 miles of range in real world driving. They are a tragic FAILURE and an embarrassment to Government Motors eggheads who failed at their job to engineer and produce a useable electric car. Buy a Nissan Leaf instead and be smart.
Remember to vote OUT the socialist marxists in 2012 and save the country.
