Toyota Promises 19 New Models For 2012 - But Will Any Be A Game Changer?
Toyota executives told dealers at a convention Monday there are 19 new models coming in 2012, including a new more fuel-efficient Toyota Avalon due in November, according to a dealer in attendance.

Dealers attending the annual National Automobile Dealers Association convention were shown a picture of the new Avalon that will be shown in April at the New York auto show.

Toyota executives said the new Avalon full-size sedan will have fuel economy as good as, or better, than a Fiat 500, which gets a combined 33 m.p.g. in city and highway driving with a five-speed manual transmission.

Every vehicle that Toyota produces is a "Game Changer".

New models, cut backs in part quality/spending, and coming in second for number of recalls. Is the new wave of product going to be any better then there existing product?

Now you're just trolling Joe. And committing spelling errors too. Bad ones. All the new launches this year have been better than the existing models. It is rare these days when a new car doesn't beat the previous model in almost every measurement. (VW being the expection.) So please enlighten us on what you base your negativity. Or did someone just pee in your coffee this morning?

I will take back my accusation of trolling if you can give me just one example of a recently released Toyota that did not surpass its predecessor. Or even be creative. What do you believe is coming down the pipeline that will be worse?

Being better than the last model isn't saying much for a Toyota. The New Camry is better than the last model yet it’s still an appliance. And trolling goes both ways. There are pro Toyota trolls here as well. But you don’t seem to have a problem with that.

On the fence on this one. I see strokes of brilliance out there with the GT86 and LFLC concepts. But then again you look at the Prius and Camry and scratch your head and wonder why? They could be so much more but fall into the snoozer category.

They are one of the few that could actually change the market place but don't have the guts to do so.

They remind me of the PC market. Just a bunch of copy cat designs not willing to take a big step and change the evolutionary path. Just better off scraping off the profits from other companies genius with cheaper and poorly designed clones.

You scratch your head at the Prius? You're unbelievable, 009. If any car in the last 20 years has been a game changer, it is the Prius. And each generation has leapt beyond the previous one in so many ways. Meanwhile the Camry is the bread and butter sedan. It sells because it does not change the game. But this generation beat its predecessor in every way. Kaizen. The Camry is the perfect example of kaizen. Kaizen is what Toyota prides itself on, not game changing. Yet the Prius, LS400, RAV4, and RX300 have proven they can do that too. You're just too much of a Toyota hater to accept this.

Ohh you mean like... "being the EXPECTION"

"What do you believe is coming down the pipeline that will be worse?"

All of their product!

Haven't you been keeping up with Auto news? Or do you just see things through a nice thick set of pink sunglasses?

Damn, I knew I would follow up my comment on spelling errors with one. grrr. clearly a typo tho, not the same as mistaking then for than and there for their. hmmmmmm.

And you are making a huge leap in assuming that Toyota's demands to suppliers will result in inferior products. How about it just makes good business sense. You still cannot provide one example of the current slew of products either recently released or soon to be that is or will be inferior to its predecessor. The new Sienna was better, the new Yaris was better, the new Camry was better, the new GS will be better. And these are just the ones we've seen.

Pink sunglasses indeed! Can you explain to me how they can force their manufacturers to cut corners and get a better product?

As to the vehicles getting better/worse. Sure, they may have been improving spec wise, but if you follow the yearly recall rate they are getting worse and worse! Probably due to cheapening the parts you put into the vehicles!

Sorry Joe, I can't buy that. If you are saying that cars recalled for loose floormats and a few* sticky throttles means Toyota quality is down, then, well, I can't argue with crazy. Take away the witchhunt for the FAKE unintended acceleration, and Toyota has a smaller recall rate than many. Floormats. Really? That's your mark of quality now? Not exloding engines? Not uninstalled brakes? Not failed steering? Not the millions of other recalls that every mfr faces day in and day out? You have got to do better than that.

*A very small fraction of the gas pedals actually stuck, the recall was on EVERY one of them, the vast vast majority having NO problem at all. And not one actual accident has ben factually linked to a sticky throttle. In fact throtlles that were found to stick did so only temporarily, and not with nearly enough force to cause runaway cars. The issue of a few sticky throttles may have never even been noticed had not the witchhunt caused Toyota to diligently turn over every possible leaf to find out what may have been happening (and which was actually not happening anyway.) ugh.

And why are you trying to hijack this thread and turn it into some discussion of recalls and quality anyway? The thread is bad enough to begin with. I may seem Toyotas through ROSE colored glasses, but at least I don't let hatred blind me to the point of irrationality. Take the blinders off, Joe! ToyLex has some great cars now and coming up. And they have some duds to replace. I try to stick to facts, to the topic and to clearly stated opinions. I avoid blanket statements, assumptions, trolling and blind hatred.

Not until you admit that the Sienna, Camry, Yaris and upcoming GS are better than their predecessors. With reasons. Gotta have some ammunition for later.

O alright. I would have gone for the obvious Corolla, but I'll be more specific. Since I had the original Matrix XRS (6 speed, solar yellow), and I loved it, I choose the disappointment of the current Matrix. See if you had posted your comment 5 years ago about Toyotas not being better than their predecessors, I would have found at least one spot of agreeement.

If we can get past the nonsense title of game changer, I'll play.
Prius C
FR-S
Avalon (maybe)
ES 300h (maybe)
RAV4 hybrid (rumors...)

Not every car has to be a "game changer." The new Camry did not change the game, and it quietly outsold every car and truck except the F150 last month. Yes, it even outsold the Silverado, a rare feat. It's no game changer; it's just a damn fine car.

Do you actually read the crap that you post? If the Eurobrands were always broken and at home all the time, then no one would purchase them. I'd take a euro brand over any Toyota appliance. Even Hyundai's are more exciting looking than the Toyotas.

Lexsucks is just your basic troll. I think Joe means well, just can't help himself sometimes due to his hatred for Toyota. Definitely trolling on this post.

009 is the real problem, always has been ever since his days as a regular troll, errr poster. But he does his job for his bosses well, gets the hits. (Is it irony that it is us who keep reading, getting him hits, feeding him, keep him employed and able to repeat the cycle?) It has always been Autospies' biggest problem. So ur a fan who likes Toyota, gets lured in by a topic about the upcoming product, and get assaulted by 009's bias. It's disheartening. Lather rinse repeat. Please sir may I have another.

Let me make all of you laugh, I cannot stand TOYOTAs but I do own a LEXUS. TOYOTAs are just good appliances built for the masses, not that their is anything wrong with that. As we all know, the average American seems to want a Camry. I do not want to fall in that category!

FromThePassengerSeat nothing hard to understand, all these knuckleheads assume that you have to fall in love with a brand and where it comes from. They fail at trying new options because of their narrowed minded views, life is too short for this way of thinking. This is why I spent 20 years in the Navy, so we can continue to have FREEDOM OF CHOICE in this country.
Like I have said numerous times, I buy what I can afford and what I like based on my needs, regardless of where it was made and which car maker built it. People on this board get offended about what some other loser hanging out here all day posting messages say about their favorite car brand. These individuals are not enthusiasts but probably a bunch of posers that cannot afford anything worth talking about.
Going back to "understanding my logic", I needed a comfortable highway cruiser (luxury) decently priced. This is why I chose the LS, no one can beat it, the best bang for the buck in the market plus the dealer gave me some incentives that I could not turn down. Many other great choices (S-Class, A8 and so on) but a bit more pricey. But I did try them all and they were all outstanding vehicles. The LS is great car overall and something you don't see on every corner (like a TOYOTA). Too many of them (TOYOTAs)on the road, personally I don't want to drive what the average consumer drives.

I agree with you on your first paragraph. However, for an LS' price you could have had a well-optioned, comfortable, much sportier M3, or, if that's not roomy enough, a CTS-V. Just saying.

I was a Democrat until 4 years ago.Now I am a Republican.I like innovation that makes sence not make us lazy. Here is an example:

Lexus makes the self parking feature - My thinking is if you cannot park you should not be driving.

GM gave us Heads up display so you are safer driving at night. Now thats innovation. They also gave us many firsts like Onstar (safety big time) and the elitrical starter and the Volt Mr Dynamite.Wait till production ramps up.
