Once Mercedes releases the new A class which will compete with the A3/1 series they could easily leap near the top in terms of sales..

Not so fast.I doubt MB will leap frog over Audi or BMW. A new A3 is on the way as well. Anyway, it will be an interesting race for global surpremacy:

BMW: 96183
Audi: 96100
MB: 86921

Lexus - doesn't register.

Smarts in there, the A1 which costs less than a mini is included in Audi's right? The most basic sprinter starts at 36K and some models go up to 80K+...

If we are including Smarts, and A1's, throw mini in there, and BMW has 112K units

@94geo, here is Daimlrer's own release:

"Stuttgart

, Feb 03, 2012 -

Mercedes-Benz has started 2012 with record sales for the month of January. The brand sold a total of 86,921 units worldwide, thus exceeding the previous year’s record by another 5.1%. Sales in the Mercedes-Benz Cars division also reached a new high in January by handing over 94,526 passenger cars of the Mercedes-Benz, smart and Maybach brands to customers (+5.8%)."

You have to compare Apples to Apples. Brand numbers only, no corporate totals otherwise one could throw in VW, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Lambo, MANN in therefore Audi and Daimler can pack up its bags and go home.

Sprinter isn't a brand, though. It's a model belonging to Mercedes.

Technically speaking, the Sprinter belongs to the Mercedes-Benz Truck & Commercial Vehicles division, not the Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars division.
