Road Test: Does Passionate Performance Overcome Forgettable Looks For The 2013 GS 350?
Like first-timers at a key party or a cheesehead's trek to Lambeau, Lexus is on a quest for passion and it couldn't come at a more critical time.

Toyota's luxury division lost the title of America's bestselling luxury brand in 2011 for the first time in 11 years. Lexus rightly blames Japan's earthquake and tsunami and their effect on supply chains, but have you driven the company's product line recently? A $400,000 supercar notwithstanding, my daily bowl of Grape-Nuts is more exciting.

Which brings us to the 2013 Lexus GS 350 sedan.

"It has more original style than the Germans, which look like knock-offs of cheaper cousins......"

This is seriously the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Especially since we can use your stupid "cheap cousin knock off" statement for the new GS as well. Does the front of the new GS look familiar? I thought I was looking at an extended CT200h!

envy. it's not pretty. the 5-series, for example, is a balanced, elegant pieces of design, inside, outside and all around. while the interior of the GS looks quite good, i agree with the author of the article...except for the front end, it's just an upsized 2006 IS with a acura/hyundai rear end that could be mistaken for a camry. an A for effort lexus. better luck in 6 years when the next one comes out.

and the sales numbers will bear out this review. the much more expensive 5 and E will continue to outsell the GS many, many times over.

To me, it looks like just another generic Asian sedan. Call me shallow, but it's important for me to like the look or my car. If all I wanted was something to get me from A to B, I'd be driving some generic Asian sedan.

@Steve

Well Lexus is a Japanese car company, so many of the automobile designs should/will reflect an Asian cultural lineage for the most part. Also looks are subjective, so opinions will vary. I personally find the new GS to be attractive, however I think that Lexus missed the mark somewhat and should have stayed with the front and rear valance styling of the Lh-Gf concept (minus a few slight alterations) for the production version.

Honestly, many of the reviews are only focusing mostly on the exterior appearance, because the journalist/testers do not want to truly admit the GS has now matched the handling and driving prowess of the heralded BMW and is a better overall car than many of the fabled German sedans they constantly gush over.

The A6 beat the new GS in a recent c/D comparison.

I'd much rather have a 333hp Hyundai Genesis and $16,000 in the bank.

As the old saying goes, you ultimately get what you pay for! The Genesis does not even closely measure up or compete once you actually compare the GS sedans attributes such as superior road handling & driving dynamics along with first-class interior layout/materials. Plus there is no outdated technology or mediocre quality which Hyundai is known for.

Say what you want, but so far the public is embracing the new GS. The more you look at it the better it look and the details show. Lexus is about the details...

If we comment on a thread like this, we must have too much time on our hands.

After reading many reviews, if someone calls New GS F-Sport the best handling car in it's class, it will not be wrong. Styling is subjective and i like the aggressive design of the F-Sport. In it's class only refreshed XF looks better IMO.

The GS is bland. Bland. Bland. I see nothing exciting about that design at all. Nothing.

that review led you to believe it has best in class handling? um, he never said that. he basically said it's a very competent handling car. no M5 here dude.
