Automakers Feel Fines For Accountability Of Recall Delays Are Unfair

Automakers want Congress to reject a proposal that would hike fines to $250 million for failing to recall vehicles properly, up from about $17 million.

The Senate is expected to debate this week an overhaul of the nation's auto safety laws, as it debates highway funding.

Under the bill, aimed at reforming the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the maximum fines for manufacturers that delay recalls would be raised.
