SPIED: Is BMW's All-New 3GT Shaping Up How YOU Expected?
One of the most controversial products on the market is the BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo. It also isn't one of BMW's best sellers.

And if you followed the discussion on forums and right here on AutoSpies, you'd know that some people are "OK" with the look while others are completely turned off. Well, you can't please them all.

Rumors surfaced within the past 12 months that even after the 5GT's dismal launch that it would be pursuing an all-new 3-Series Gran Turismo. Most people were surprised but speculation has assured us that it would be much sleeker and sexy as opposed to the bulbous look of the 5GT.

Now you can judge for yourself as the latest spy photos capture the upcoming 3GT from its rear 3/4 and reveals the vehicle's greenhouse. Though it is covered in snow, it's pretty clear that the vehicle is tall as the distance from the top of the fender to its window lines is pretty significant and its wheel/tire set up -- I know, I know it's the winter set up -- looks akin to wheelbarrow wheels.

Is this what you were expecting? Or, were you looking forward to a sleeker, more sporting design?

1) since the 5GT came out in 2010 (2010-2012) it has outsold the previous generation 5-series wagon in the U.S. more than 2-1 compared to the first three years of the last 5-series wagon (2006-2008). It might not be a giant volume seller, but it sells much more than the media (and blog readers) want to admit it does.

2) whatever car is in that picture looks a lot more like a sleek hatchback (i.e. an S5 Sportback or A7) than the 5GT. It would seem BMW is targeting the 3GT or 4GT or 4GC or whatever that is more towards the "form over function" crowd than the 5GT.

Well if BMW is aiming at A7 market with younger people than 3GT makes sense to me. I would own one.

I don't think it is quite meant to be a sleek sportback like an A7 etc...
Merely an alternative to a 3er wagon which is confirmed to be coming to the U.S.
and could mean we may not even get the GT...

The new F32 coupe Gran Coupe is meant to be more of a sleeker, hotter ride
ala S5 when it debuts in 2014....

Why doesn't BMW ask Honda, if building a 3GT is a good idea?
