The Next Big Move? Hyundai Approaches Coachbuilders To Enter the Stretch Limo Market

Last week Hyundai made a pitch to coachbuilders and livery operators at the International LCT Show in Las Vegas. Cadillac, with its Escalade, and Lincoln, with its Town Car, are the primary players in this niche market.

The annual event is touted as the world's biggest convention for limousine, charter and tour operators, hence the LCT acronym.

Automakers display models, coachbuilders display conversions and the livery business lines up to place orders. LCT's trade magazine and Web site cover the industry.

Compared to some of the abominations I've seen that pass themselves off a limos, this one doesn't look bad at all.

Well done, I'd rather have the Genesis pick up the Livery mantle from Lincoln than the Equus pictured, but that's just because I'm more interested in having a new Town Car in the sense of being low-cost, easily-repaired and moderately prestigious RWD limos. Throw the GDI Lambda V6 in a stretched Genesis and I'd have to consider one for toodling clients around. I'm happy everyone seems to like this application for these cars (as opposed to somewhat mixed-bag responses towards them competing with MB, BMW, etc.) but again, keep the passenger compartment's interior, throw it in a stretched configuration Genesis with the GDI Lambda V6 and I'd be very interested in procuring one (not for personal use, obviously, but it could be written off pretty easily).
