Have You Noticed That MOST Of The Hot Future Cars ALL Resemble The Audi R8, NOT A BMW, Mercedes Or Porsche?
No, really. Think about it.

The wedge-shaped sports has taken the field by force. Though one can argue that the wedge-shaped sports car has been around for YEARS, it seems that the Audi R8 has given it a modern day injection of vitality.

Recently we've seen the new Acura NSX concept make its debut and there are some similarities -- Mid-engine set up, large grill, venting towards the mid-mounted motor past the B-Pillar.

Then there are cars like the Lotus Evora and all-new Infiniti Emerg-E. Though I've made a clear point to address that they're similar, I think it's blatantly obvious at this point: The Emerg-E is based on an Evora chassis.

Hell, even the BMW i8 seems to follow the wedge-shaped principles.

Now why didn't we see other automakers -- like BMW, Mercedes-Benz or Porsche -- lead this styling charge? Though front-engined grand tourers, like the BMW 6-Series and Mercedes-Benz CL, are highly desired they don't exactly have people up in arms or putting posters up on their wall.

The question we're wondering is simple: Is Audi leading the styling push of the 21st century automotive industry?

It already ensured that just about every luxury brand NEEDS LED lights, has it also made sure that everyone needs to compete with a mid-engine, wedge-shaped product?

I don't agree with your hypothesis. Mid-engine cars tend to look like...well...mid-engine cars. And all your examples in the pics are mid-engine cars. Most cars are NOT mid-engine cars, and therefore, most of the "hot new cars" don't look lke the R8. Just sayin'.

I agree with you on the general principle, UNLESS the mid-engined car in question has a big grille. Then, I would suggest that its designer is following the trend more-or-less established by Audi for this class.

There's no doubt Audi and the R8 have inspired BMW and others.
The R8 blended Italian exoticness and style with Teutonic engineering in a way never done before.....
But that was 2007/08.....

But who will lead us into the NEXT 5-7 years in styling????

Except when BMW did it in the 1970's with the M1....
(Looks there is some doubt.)

And the BMW M1 was designed by an ITALIAN.

Steve is right. Mid-engine cars look like mid-engine cars and always have. If anything, the R8 looks the Jaguar XJ 220. No one is copying Audi any more than Audi copied the first mid-engine car to look like a wedge.

Maybe from a VW fanboys point of view.

Notice the sleeklnes of the 1999 S2000, in 1999, Audi/Vw were still vety blocky and sharp edges..

LOL! The title makes NO sense. How can MOST cars ALL resemble a car. Its contradictory.

Its like sex panther from the movie Anchor Man "80% of the time it works every time."

001 I really hope you don’t pay these guys. It would be embarrassing if that was the case.

Wow, this is egregious, divisive pro-Audi twaddle even by audispies.com standards! If VAG marketbots aren't too embarrassed, you should be good for a free service for this one. Personally them unpainted side-bits on the R8 look like a direct rip from Merc CW311, as does the big German-brand emblem on the front. I wouldn't say as such though of course, as that would sound STUPID!

America, the M1 was not mass-produced for retail sales like the R8 was AND the R8 uses an ITALIAN engine. The M1 did not- so no, it was not done like this before...

Think before you post.

Hey, did you know that cars of the 50s all had "wings" on the back quarter, too?

No doubt about it. The Lambo Adventador, the Bugatti Veyron, the new Mercedes SL definitely resemble an Audity. But only if you first rinse your eyes in 10-W30 non detergent oil to see the similarity.
