BMW Records Profit Fall Short Of Rival Audi

BMW Records Profit Fall Short Of Rival Audi
BMW reported a record profit margin in its core automotive business for 2011. The result nonetheless fell short of matching that of close rival Audi.

BMW's automotive segment boosted earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) as a percentage of revenue to 11.8 percent versus 8.0 percent a year before, but missed the 12.1 percent achieved by VW's premium brand.

Analysts had forecast an EBIT margin of 11.9 percent for the full year.

BMW, which is fending off efforts by Audi and Mercedes-Benz to take the premium segment's top sales spot, spent 500 million euros in the second half to introduce new versions of the 3-series sedan and 1-series compact.

Great year, and numbers put up by BMW. Introducing the new 3 and 1 series cost a little money, but will set them up nicely for 2012.

I am surprised that this comparison test has not been posted on Autospies. BMW delivers a complete domination of the competition ...

The new 328 is impressive, but the Volvo S60 was the biggest suprise!

"As mentioned, we sat around screaming at each other for over an hour trying to determine if the Buick was in fact a lamer duck than the Infiniti. We spent all of three minutes declaring the BMW best in test and best in class. This is not just a win for the 328i; it's a massacre. A slaughter. Doomsday. Armageddon. I say this with a straight face: There is no competition. Not only was the BMW's first-place finish never in question, but I can't remember a comparison test with such lopsided results."

..pretty convincing win.

Do not forget VW owns Audi. They have a lot of purchasing power which leads to savings. Why do you think Porsche was trying to buy VW.

when you use the same headlights as well as taillights on virtually every model you sell, you're bound to save lots of $$$

A mid-sized independent car company being only 3 tenths of a percent behind a much larger owned company is damn impressive..and that's with a half billion euro investment to bring its work horse (F30 3 series) into production.

Trust me, you have not seen anything yet.

The Geek Like Fanaticism these folk display tells me they probably do not have girlfriends.

As soon as you get an article on VW/Audi you will have lots of BMW Fanboys putting up comments and reviews about a BMW trashing the competition.

Same with Lexus.

Funny thing is, i've noticed the average age of the posters is down considerably...... well...... either that or the average IQ of the posters is down significantly.

Most have never even sat in or driven the vehicles they consider "Inferior or Bland or Slow or Cookie Cutter....."

Same with VW/Audi fanboys(I-95), doesn’t matter what the topic is they manage to make it Audi centric....hilarious.

Sorry Mate

I am currently driving a 120d {2012my}

Before that a 320d {E90}

Before that a 520d {F10}

Difference between myself and the clowns who just write drivel on this site is that i have access to a wide range of vehicles and do my best to drive as many as possible, hence i actually know that the VW/ AUDI vehicles are better in some aspects than the BMW or MB vehicles.

You will never find me making blanket statements about a particular manufacturer especially when comparing the 3 Germans because they each have their strong points.

Contrast that with the clearly uninformed drivel you find all over the comments section of this website.

Oh..so your first post above is based off your access to a wide range of vehicles. Got it. Also you apparently feel like you know what all the users on here drive, and are confident your past driving/ownership experience makes your opinion more valid.

My bad it sounded like you were basing fanboys from BMW, and Lexus..and questioning their IQ.

NO, my first post is based on having been a member of this site for over 4 years and seeing the marked decline in the quality of comments posted.

And yes, i do believe the opinions of one who has sat in and driven a vehicle is vastly more valid than those of one who has not.

If you cannot see the logic in that then we better stop this debate as it would be a complete waste of time on my part.

Thing is you don't know what other people drive. Not everyone feels the need to announce what they own..so its impossible to judge who drove what, and there for impossible to state someones opinion is more valid.

i beg to differ.

One can tell from the silly comments people post that they have probably not physically seen the vehicle they are commenting on.

When i have on more than one occasion asked said commenter when he /she drove the vehicle in question or if they have ever even been a passenger in one, i am met with silence.

Like i have said many times, true vehicle enthusiasts reserve judgement till they have personally seen or driven a vehicle and not just post silly comments like " Have they sorted their reliability issues" or "Audis are boring to drive because FWD cars are boring" or "All Audis look the same"

These are the commenters i describe as kids and i do not need to live next door to them to know they have never driven the vehicles they are commenting on.

I had a disagreement on here with a commenter who felt i was wrong on the refinement of the BMW 2.0L 184hp diesel engine because i said the 2.0L VW unit was smoother, thing is I have driven vehicles with both engines back to back and the driver of the other vehicles agree with me, even the driver of other BMW 2.0L diesels agree, but no, this particular disagreed not because he had ever driven one, but because of the "Engine Of The Year Awards" the BMW unit had recieved.

How do you even begin to argue with someone who without driving the vehicle in question would argue till they are blue in the face that you are wrong ?
{Comparison was done with 120d M-Sport / VW Sirroco 2.0TDI / 320d M-Sport / VW Passat CC 2.0 TDI } all less than 4 months old by Nov 2011

So now i hope you will understand why i refuse to acknowledge the opinions of those who argue without firsthand experience.

And yes, i proudly state when i have driven the vehicle in question so there can be no question of imaginary issues or likes/dislikes which is something too many other members are guilty of on this site.

BTW: For all the RWD will always handle better than FWD people i suggest you watch the Fifth Gear Test of a FWD Renault Megane against a RWD Nissan 370z.

Funny, last time i checked the all RS models were Quattro, which means ALL WHEEL DRIVE.

But why let facts get in the way of more BMW promotion.

PQ40 i hope you are paying attention. here is a perfect example of what i was explaining earlier.

I asked people to view a test between a FWD Renault Megane and a RWD Nissan 370z {VW/AUDI Fanboy ehh ? } Just to put to rest the notion that RWD is ALWAYS better handling than FWD

I get a reply with a test of an AWD AUDI RS3 and RWD BMW 1M from a guy with a screen name "bmwm6"

Ill let you decide who is more likely a Fanboy.

FYI bmwm6 , FWD = Front Wheel Drive

Pq40 take note.

Wait so FWD>RWD>AWD?

Looks like BMW had better jack up their prices still higher.

It appears, they are not gouging Americans nearly enough to obtain their lofty profit dreams.
