If The New Honda Civic Is So Bad And New Competition Is Better, WHY Is It Seliing So Well?
Even with some unfavorable reviews for the current Civic, the car continues to attract the buyers competitors seek, said Alexander Edwards, president of the automotive division of Strategic Vision Inc., a San Diego-based consumer-research firm.

Within the small-car segment, Civic is “still grabbing a younger, somewhat wealthier crowd,” Edwards said. The median age of its buyers is 45, compared with a segment average of between 49 and 50 years old, he said.

Volkswagen AG (VOW)’s Jetta draws a younger customer, with a median age of 41, because of its cheaper base price and Hyundai’s Elantra matches Civic with a median buyer age of 45, said Edwards, whose firm surveys 300,000 people a year for its automotive studies. Jetta’s starting price is $15,515, according to Edmunds.

Consumer reports a huge fan of Honda in the past was even down on the car:

Honda Motor Co.’s newest version of the Civic, a model that’s been a foundation of the automaker’s U.S. sales for decades, flopped in tests by Consumer Reports, failing to win the magazine’s coveted “Recommended” status.

Loyal customers, public perception, great reliability, high gas prices... take your pick.

It's because of the Honda reputation will stand up to a few criticisms like it already has and people probably aren't ready to settle for the Korean versions.

All these unfavorable reviews come from the same idiots that bashed the new Jetta and just look at their sales. These guys are idiots that are not in sync with what the consumer really want to buy. Not sure why people still read garbage like Consumer Reports and so on?

To me, the new Civic is a disappointment. But that's just because I expect more from Honda---I've had eleven of 'em. If I were in the market right now, the Civic would be at or near the top of my list along with the Mazda 3 and the Focus.
The Koreans are getting much better, but they are still inferior to the Civic---even a mediocre Civic.

Honda = Reliable and Smart choice. New Civic is very good almost best in every department except the vanilla design. I hope the promised 2013 facelift improves the design significantly. The old one looks one of the best design car in it's class still.

Customer loyalty, reliability. But IMO they should fire the whole design team and hire some Italian ones. Most of their problems would be solved.

Reminds me of the term "blindly follow". Dr550 said it best.
