MIXED Reviews: SPORT Sedan Shootout, WHICH 500 + HP Beast Would YOU Want And WHY?

MIXED Reviews: SPORT Sedan Shootout, WHICH 500 + HP Beast Would YOU Want And WHY?
There are three jobs you can have and never completely be wrong -- and if you are, you likely aren't going to be fired:

1) Weatherman
2) Economist
3) Automobile reviewer

The reason is simple. Everyone has different taste and is looking for a vehicle to act and behave differently. That's pretty evident when there is a sport sedan showdown, much like AutoBild and Autocar had in recent testing.

Then there is the glowing Top Gear review.

As you'd expect, many folks are on the edge of their seat trying to figure out how good or bad the all-new BMW M5 is. So, publications put it up against cars like the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Jaguar XFR and Cadillac CTS-V.

AutoBild picked the M5 as it's winner; however, Autocar went another direction. It claimed that the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is the victor because it predominantly: weighs less and is more exciting to drive.

Aside from that, WHICH uber sedan would YOU prefer to have in your driveway and WHY?

Put the reviews aside and take into consideration their style and what you've heard about them on the road.

I am an MB Fan but disagree with Autocar....The Only reason that I have to pick the E63 is the Torque *with performance pack, (nice for drifting), but this time prefer the M5. If CLS were there...then CLS. But this time the M5 is the winner for me , However the overweight on the M5 is starting to change the mind of the purist.

Obviously the best 4-door is a Porsche Panamera Turbo S, money no-bar. It will whack the rest in a straight-line and on a track.
I am an M5 fan but the Jaguar has that certain something with the light-weight special Aluminum (Aluminium) construction, agility, beautiful British interiors and Exhaust noise that the others can't match (The MB comes close but the M5 is a fail and so is the Panamera Turbo/Turbo S). Waiting for that special 550+Bhp version

Motor Trend just got their hands on the new M5 and recorded some impressive numbers out of it. They were also able to compare them to the Panamera Turbo/turbo s.

"We recorded a 0-60-mph time for the previous M5 at 4.1 seconds with a quarter-mile time of 12.5 seconds at 115.3 mph. Those seem like fast numbers until you consider the newer car runs to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and gets through the quarter in 11.9 seconds at 120.3 mph.

For comparison's sake, a Porsche Panamera Turbo we tested recently performed these same feats of strength in 3.5 seconds to 60 mph and 11.9 seconds at 114.7 mph through the quarter mile. But all-wheel drive is clearly a big advantage for the Porsche, and its extra 68 lb-ft of torque help the 102-pound-heavier Panamera get out of the hole.

Once the M5's speeds start to rise, the turbos spool and traction becomes less of an issue. The BMW gets from 0 to 100 mph in 8.4 seconds, while it takes the Porsche 8.8 seconds. The disparity in speed at the end of the quarter mile leads us to believe the M5 would keep pulling away at the high end. The Porsche makes a peak 500 hp, while the BMW cranks out a blistering 560 hp. We have tested a Panamera Turbo S rated at 550 hp that bridges the matches the M5's 0-100-mph time, but still lags behind the M5's trap speed, coming in at 118.0 mph. It would seem the BMW is either producing a little more power than rated, or more of it is getting to the ground through two wheels once it's securely hooked up."

Honestly, who cares?

All of these cars are great and impressive performers in their own right. Whatever people select, it depends on personal preferences.

Anyone who praises one car from this list because of personal bias and slams the others cars here is nothing more than a stupid fanboy with no respect for other brands.

Forget manufacturer claimed weights -- according to Sport Auto the actual weight of the E63 and M5 are within 13kg (29lbs) of one another. The M5 is the fastest and best handling. It's also nicer inside than the E. I'll take the M5.

JRobUSC so you think that Manufacturers know less than you...even If you do not like it , you'll have to accept their number which are not ESTIMATIONS as yours or mines. Factory numbers say that the M5 is between 300 to 500 pounds heavier than the E63 depending on the equipment...However that is not affecting the excellent performance of that extraordinary machine. What I will say is that If MB continues losing weight , the soon to come light E edition with could wipeout this heavy runner if they decide to dress it on AMG apparels

I'd get the M5 easily, not just based on the fact that there has never been a bad one, but for sporty driving, there's no substitute for the super-fast shifts of a TRUE dual clutch gearbox. The single clutch semi-auto gearbox that Mercedes is using on the E63 is antiquated and inferior. That's probably the single biggest reason why the E63 will lose to the new M5 in a drag race, even though it weighs less and has a comparable engine. The hydraulic steering system on the M5 is also a plus compared to the electric one in the E63.

Likely, the only reason I'd choose the E63 over the M5 is when Mercedes provides significantly better financial incentives/rebates than BMW. That would be a factor for me cause I would pay a little bit more for the M5, but not considerably more.

I think the E63 AMG looks the most sophisticated and sporty amongst this group.

I'm not really feeling the new F10 5er, which looks quite characterless in terms of design. even the visual M add-ons do little to give the car an edgy and sporty appearance.

I don't like what the facelift did to the face of the Jaguar XF.

But at the end of the day, a normal E350 or E350 Bluetec is the car I'm looking at.

I doubt that the GS-F, if and when it appears on the market, will have 500hp solely from an internal combustion engine. My guess is that the GS-F will have an updated version of the IS-F drivetrain with some version of a KERS system bolted on to give a "Marketing Combined" hp rating of 500+ hp.

They don't exist yet, but give me a RS7 that does not understeer and I would be happy. A Infiniti sedan based on the GT-R would also be high on my list.

Of the cars listed, I'll take the BMW M5 everyday, though I like the previous model's design a lot better.

Thank you for your words of wisdom and perspective.

If you want to see an Administration that did have a direct effect on raising gas prices in the United States, look at the average price per gallon of gas during the Clinton Administration and compare that to the average price during Bush Jr.'s Administration.
