Roadster SHOWDOWN: Can Porsche's All-New Boxster Fend Off The Z4 iS, SLK AMG And TT RS?
Well, I'll be the first to say that the two-seat roadster segment isn't exactly producing white hot sales figures. They've been pretty dull for some time now. But as they say, "The show MUST go on!"

Porsche has showed off it's all-new Boxster for a bit of time now and we've been sure to show you the latest and greatest shots of the pretty stellar entry-level Porsche. And from the looks of it, we'd say that YOU are very excited for this product. There's been plenty of positive sentiment and rightfully so because it is a helluva looker.

But how's it compare to the latest newcomers? THINK. There have been a lot of hardcore performers bowing on stage at auto shows internationally. For Porsche, the line up is a bit intimidating:

- Audi TT RS
- BMW Z4 iS
- Mercedes-Benz SLK AMG

Thing is though, the Boxster has always been able to best its rivals -- can it continue its winning streak?

Even better: if you were in the market for a German two-seat roadster, WHICH would YOU have and WHY?

Would you base your decision on looks?

Would you base your decision on performance?

Would you base your decision on practicality?

Please. The Bimmer is old. The Benz is fugly and girly. The Audi is interesting and is the closest match. Better yet wait a bit longer and get a 991 off lease.

What wonderful insights - not.

For your information female buyers make up over 60% of customers in this particular niche. So in effect all cars here are "girly" if we go by your stupid logic.

It's an opinion willie. The Benz isn't a very sporty machine. The others are moreso. Reading comprehension is a virtue. Try to master it.

I believe the Z4 and TT came out at the same time, so you should have kept it fair and called them both old. That being said, I still think the Z4 smokes the competition if you want a winterized Roadster that blends luxury/convienece and sport together. The Boxster clearly wins all in the performance realm. SLKs have never been impressive to me. Until I drove a newer Boxster, I was also unimpressed with the Boxsters looks and premium features. The real question is what the needs of the buyer will be for the Roadster, if it is a daily driver, it may be produce a different winner versus a weekend car. That's my $.02

Does any other ever come close? What's to fend off?

Many publications have stated that the Boxster's electric steering is even better then the 991's. Further while the 991's handling has moved closer to the current mid engined Boxster and Cayman the new Boxster and Boxster S has moved the mid engined handling goal post on further. So even though the electric steering is not quite as informative as the previous hydralic steering the handling and turn in are so good that it really does not seem to matter. Further the ride and refinement has taken a good step forward. In reality now the new Boxster has similar interior room to the Mercedes, BMW and Audi. It has similar refinement to the Mercedes BMW and Audi yet it outhandles and out corners them on virtually any road. The only argument against the Boxster could be straightline performance and that can be made by the TTRS. However on every other driving catagory the Boxster appears to be the best of the group.

When I go to replace my Boxster I will pick...none of the above. I was waiting to see what direction they would go, and I don't like it. I'll take a break and finally get a 996 Turbo Cab I've been lusting after for years.

take the benz, best ride, handiling not the best, but I do not encounter many twisty roads on my commute, just the interstate
