Miami Dealer Gouges Customers With $7000 Market Adjustment Fee On Prius C Models

The 2012 Toyota Prius C is probably the most anticipated hybrid of 2012, and offers subcompact style and hybrid gas mileage.

It’s no surprise then that Toyota has already had to up production volumes in Japan, where the Prius C is currently made.

But if the photograph we received this week from a reader who goes by the pseudonym of Miami4me2C  is anything to go by, a high demand for the fun-packed hybrid has also given rise to the age-old problem of inflated sticker prices as dealers try to cash in on the new hybrid’s popularity.

Something tells me it will be difficult to finance a vehicle for 27,000 that is only worth 20,000 which means Mr Hendrickson is expecting buyers to hunker down some cash. I would think the people in a position to do that would sooner buy something else, say a classic Prius.

I test drove prius V and C, V was kinda nice but felt like riding a cow, C is a joke on wheels for over 20k, bought passat tdi se for 26k, huge car and with pen and paper 42.3mpg mixed. I'm not biased against hybrid or diesel just went with what felt better and looked like better value.

I've went to this Coconut Creek, Florida dealership a couple of years ago and didn't stay long ! - the dealer had an additional dealer mark-up on many of the Toyota window stickers in the lot. Of course the amount of that mark-up varied by type of vehicle . . . but even vehicles like the RAV4 had it on their window stickers.

The dealer margins on new cars are small, and if only 1 in ten or twenty buyers actually pays the additional dealer mark-up then the impact on total profitability for the dealership can be significant.

In the case of this Toyota dealership I would suggest that there are so many international visitors who are buyers for export [from countries in which Toyota prices are consistently higher than in the US] that some of them may consider the prices ... even with additional dealer mark-up ... to be quite acceptable, especially if they haven't shopped around !!

It is against the dealer agreement to export new vehicles, so when the dealer finds outs you would like to export they have to turn you away. You must pay tax and tag, then after a certain amount of time you can export because then it would be a used car.

The money that they would have saved on gas will now go to Toyota. People are fools and never look at the big picture.

That $7,000 is going directly to the dealership, not Toyota.

If someone is dumb enough to pay $7,000 over sticker for a Prius, let them. The smart shopper would look else where for a better deal or buy a car that achieves similar mileage and pocket the difference.

Supply and demand. If the supply of morons is high enough....this dealer will do well. Otherwise people will just walk down the street to another dealer.

I know Al Henderson Toyota. A complete pack of thieves and scoundrels. No surprise that he is still gouging people's eyes out. The proof is in the photo. No respect whatsoever for the customer.

Steer clear, way, way clear of Al Henderson Toyota!!
