Clarkson calls Veloster a disaster
I can't see anyone buying Hyundai's newest car - the Veloster.

Because, if you are not interested in cars, you will wonder why it has two doors on one side and only one on the other. And why it has scoops on the bonnet, and why it costs £17,995 when for two-thirds of that you can buy a Hyundai i10, which is easier to park and uses less fuel.

I was afraid I am the only one who "doesn't get" the Veloster. Its exterior design is different but it seemed like it's trying too hard to be different, like Lady Gaga. The name implies some sort of hyper performance yet it is no standout. Like everything coming out of Hyundai and Kia in recent years, the exterior designs really stand out (and that is due to their Western design chiefs) but the performance, feel and long-term quality remain to be seen. I hate to say it but Korean car companies still lack the experience/understanding/knowledge that their European/Japanese/American counterparts have.

Okay... those were far too many groin-related jokes for my taste, but I must agree with Clarkson on the Veloster's character. It's not a sports car at all; it instead captures a Corolla's spirit (or lack thereof) inside a Halloween costume.

Walked out of my store today and in the parking lot amid all the normal stuff is a new veloster, regardless of any mechanical aspects it is one good looking ride. It is the lotus europa of the day. Just sayin!!

I'm in Charlotte and I've been seeing quite a few of these around. I think it looks good.

It had a lot of promise. Before it came out many were speculating that this would be Hyundai's answer to the VW Sirocco. Hyundai even used the Sirocco as a model to fine tune it's chassis.Obviously Hyundai learned noting from this exercise or perhaps it was nothing more then a marketing ploy to run these two together in Europe. In any case a big dissapointment. The 1.6 boasts 138 HP in N/A form. Then you realize it has little to no torque and sounds strained. The steering is totally numb in feel. Supposidly it handles OK but that's probably more to bigger tires then the chassis.Fully loaded up it's significantly over 20 grand. If I do not need a lot of space and cargo space ability why not splurg for a Fiat 500 Abarth? It has handling, agility, a great sounding engine, fun styling and starting off at $22,700.

Clarkson who? Last time I checked we live in America. His POV is invalid in my eyes. I'd rather take Jay Leno giving the same comments on the Veloster more serious. F*** JEREMY CLARKSON AND I HAD BETTER NOT HEAR OF HIS NAME AGAIN. If I win the Mega million dollar lotto, will you start to take me seriously because of my "preference" and "collection"? Right... Waste of a f*cking article. The Veloster TOTOALLY serves its purpose. I could see if it was a 40k automobile. 001, I respect YOUR review before Jeremy's. #BOOMPOW

...thank the good man above for articles like this. I'm reminded why I don't log onto this site like I used to...

Style over Substance.

And yet they find buyers for it.

Funny how someone was asking the other day why kids are not as interested in cars these days compared to 20yrs ago.

Isn't Hyundai following a Chrysler selling model in a way, it seems Chrysler sells their product (cheaply made in every one I have see) by making them popular because of styling. Look at all the morons who paid all the money and over sticker for the POS PT Cruiser and that continue to pay all the money for crap cars like the Chargers/Challengers/300s... Style sells! Quality and performance take a back seat clearly.

I hate this kind of coverage - I applaud any automaker that takes a risk with styling and packaging . . . oh ok maybe not Infiniti for the Q56 but pretty much any other manufacturer's controversial design if fine. I don't want everything looking as bland as a Toyota Corolla or Cadillac CTS.

Now if only we could get more creative with paint color choices: black, white, silver - BORING.
