Is this the worst new styling trend in recent years?
A blast from the past styling element is the new trend in the auto industry, and this might not be a good thing. It is showing up on compacts, sedans, vans, hybrids, super cars and everything in between and the results are a mixed bag. We are talking about the A-pillar quarter glass not seen since the days of vent windows of the 1960s. The modern version doesn't provide fresh air but looks to be a necessity in the world of big wheels, wide pillars and sleek rooflines. While some cars like the Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren MP4-12C, Volkswagen Touareg, and Toyota Prius V are able to employ the benefits of the A-Pillar without compromising their design others are not so lucky and end up ruining their design.

Does this new styling trend bother you or do you like the extra visibility that it provides?

Nothing worse than the Bangled-up rear ends of BMWs.

I'm not getting people's puzzlement over the 4-door coupe concept. If they don't like the styling, I understand, but in practical terms it is the same reduced headroom and visibility of a coupe, but with easier ingress and egress for the rear passengers and usually a tiny bit more leg room.

I barely have rear passengers and never for long distances so coupes meet my need, but the idea of the occasional rear passenger having to slip in behind the seat and not have their own door or functioning windows is not appealing.

As for the A-pillar quarter glass? It doesn't usually look attractive, but I'd be willing to give it a pass if it really provides added visibility but, I'm not sure it does--at least not where it matters.

Anything that obstructs the driver's view bothers me and this along with the fat A-pillars obstructs visibility. It is one of the things that is horrible on my Volt.

meh. I'm more bothered by the snub nose grills caused by European pedestrian safety mandates.
