Lexus Planning Baby RX  SUV To Answer Evoque And Q5
Lexus is planning a rival to the Range Rover Evoque and Audi Q5, Auto Express understands.
 
The Toyota luxury brand has enjoyed huge success with the RX range, particularly in the US, but Andy Pfeiffenberger, vice president of Lexus Europe, wants to focus on the class below.
 
“We have been very slow to come to the market with a downsized SUV,” he told us. “This is an area of our range that you will see develop over the next few years.

That's a good market. The RX is 45k to 50k they need one in that 37 to 40k range. I think they can find some volume there.

They can find some volume with a sub-RX SUV in the lineup. But they will, no doubt, see a decrease of sales in the RX juggernaut & a decrease in profit as well.

that all well and good. but the RX competes with the Q5 and can't really touch the evoque for off road capability. plus it's already less than either of those. an even smaller lexus SUV will compete with VW and subaru.

Having bought both makes, Acura will never compete with Lexus. Acura is not luxury.

Yes and the baby ute wont happen until the RX gets bigger (likely with a 3rd row). The GX probably won't return for a 3rd generation, leaving room for the RX to grow.
