UAW President Bob King Appointed To Board Of Opel
The United Auto Workers union on Wednesday said its president, Bob King, had been appointed to the supervisory board of Opel AG, General Motors's loss-making German unit.

King was appointed by IG Metall, the German's metalworkers union, to serve as a labor representative on Opel's supervisory board, UAW spokeswoman Michele Martin told AFP.

The appointment takes effect on June 1.

King's presence on the board was quietly promoted by Opel's parent General Motors, which had worked closely with King during a sweeping restructuring of GM in 2009 and 2010.

this is a precursor to a GM board appointment. The best way to get labor and management to agree is to place your enemies where you can see em.

Don't know bout that one. But if indeed the UAW has the best interest of all parties in mind. This is a way to do it.

@Agent009: I agree with your sentiment whole-heartedly, but the UAW's track record appears to paint them as self-serving parasites who don't have the sense to know they're sucking the host dry (i.e., they're not smart enough to understand that GM needs to be prosperous for them to keep sucking GM's life-blood).

Actually, I think I might take that back. Perhaps the UAW is smarter than I give them credit for. The host (GM) died not too long ago, and the Feds gave them a blood replacement using tax-payers' dollars, thereby temporarily breathing life back into them. So perhaps the UAW has got the next round of bail-outs all figured out, and doesn't need GM to be prosperous...or even alive. Either way, the UAW will get their money. Yuck! That thought doesn't sit well with me :-(
