VW Scirocco get ready to battle BMW Z2
Set to compete in the same market as the Z2, the machine will go on sale in 2008.

With a length of 4.2 metres, the three-door model will sit above the Golf in the VW range. While it shares much of its running gear with the hatchback, the Scirocco also has many unique mechanical parts to give a more focused driving experience.

The market really dosen't NEED another 2 seat roadster in the sub 40k segment....

BMW, Porsche, Audi and MB need to realize their niche. They are trying to build a vehicle for every segment, which will dilute their status and eventually take them to the level of GM and Toyota. The last thing they should do is saturate the market. At some point in time, one of the main reasons for buying one dissapears.

But if the reason to buy a BMW/Audi/MB/Porsche disappears, then what vehicle is left to buy? A Ford? We come full circle then?

Naaah, as long as there's a great car at every price point, I think the Euros will continue to be successful. Remember when Porsche built the El Cheapo 914? It didn't really hurt its image.

Perhaps the automakers want to cover each segment because they feel that some people can't afford to purchase a top end BMW, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Acura so they must create one that's in the cheaper market to capture all sales possible.

At least it would make the buyer feel better driving a cheaper badged "premium' branded vehicle.
