VIDEO: Tiff Needell Puts The Nissan GT-R Up Against The All-New Porsche 911 Carrera S (991)
The Nissan GT-R versus Porsche 911 debate will likely go down in history as one of the biggest rivalries in the automotive business. Just like the Chevrolet Camaro versus Ford Mustang muscle car war, there are pros and cons on either side of the argument.

What it really comes down to is simple: What are YOU looking for?

Here's where things get interesting: EVO Magazine out of the UK has apparently enlisted Tiff Needell of Top Gear and Fifth Gear fame to put both on the track and figure out who's best.

This includes two factors:

1) Track time(s)

2) Fun to drive factor

evo's latest signing, Tiff Needell, puts the 2012 Nissan GT-R and the brand new '991' Porsche 911 Carrera S against each other on track at the Bedford Autodrome in the UK. Against each other - and against the clock - which do you think will go quickest?

GTR is like the Mclaren MP4-12C

Fantastic in every measurable category, but just does not give you that fizz in the "Gentleman's Sausage" area.

Good job to Nissan though, 2.9secs is almost Veyron territory.

The new 2012/2013 Nissan GT-R actually does 0-60 in 2.7s not 2.9s. Tiff said it's 2.8s but some test driver been getting 2.7s from 0-60. Just google and you see.

In lower speed track like this, AWD will be a drag compared to an RWD setup. GT-R will really shine in high speed corners where RWD MUST slow down.

I do wonder if next generation will come up with an innovative AWD like Ferrari FF. They should be able to shed 300lb eventually.

The wonderful thing that Nissan did with the GTR is force Porsche and everyone else to up their game. Can't wait to see what the 991 GT3/turbo will do. Porsche has made some noise lately that hp increases is not going to be their game, but rather reducing weight. Hope so.

Granted, one could argue that the track isn't ideal for the GT-R; however, we should all acknowledge the Carrera S' time is really impressive vs. the GT-R's.

The Carrera S is a brilliant car but if you are comparing just timing then 2.7s is a HUGE difference on the track. I wouldn't call it impressive (vs. the GTR) - but there are so many other reasons to buy the Porsche over the GTR that track times aren't the deciding factor for me. The GTR just commands respect.

I think Nissan did an AMAZING job with this Nissan GT-R considering it has been out for awhile and the next generation is due to come soon. Impressive performance by both car but Nissan Win again.

I wonder why they couldn't have used a Carrera S with a PDK transmission to match the Nissan's dual clutch transmission?

Might not be available yet.

Edmunds tested one and it 0.7s quicker to 60 than the manual Carrera S.

I thought the GTR is suppose to battle the Turbo/TurboS/GT2RS ish 911s.

It is; however, the 911 Turbo/S/GT2, etc. are not available in the all-new 991 package yet.

Agent 00R: "Might not be available yet."?

All the initial 991's were shipped with PDK - MT's were very hard to come by. Of course the 991 should have had PDK, might have knocked a couple of tenths off the 991 time (or maybe not, with Tiff driving). Certainly would not have made a difference in the outcome

Tiff is simply brilliant behind the wheel. This was a great video, but the two cars are not in the same league. Even with the weight, the GT-R has too much power and AWD.
