Is A Four Door Mustang Sedan A Good Idea?

Is A Four Door Mustang Sedan A Good Idea?
The following two facts are true, Road & Track is reporting that Ford will be build a four door version of its popular Mustang for 2014 and that today is April 1st. The end result is not too bad at all and perhaps begs the question whether Ford should actually build a four door Mustang to take on the Dodge Charger. Even if this April Fool's joke doesn't sway Ford to add extra doors to the Mustang it should have Ford thinking about building a V8 powered rear wheel drive sedan. Ford actually already builds such a sedan in Australia called the Falcon and in its highest performing application it is powered by a supercharged version of the Mustang GT's V8 with 450 horsepower. With Ford's recent focus on offering its products globally there is a possibility that the next version of the Falcon would be sold in other countries aside from Australia.

Would you buy a four door Mustang sedan or a Mustang powered Ford Falcon, or do you prefer the Taurus SHO?

Take the Mustang's RWD platform and use it for Lincolns already! But a Mustang sedan? Meh... I dunno. It could end up horrendously tacky (or not).

Either way, what exactly is stopping Ford from making a RWD Lincoln?

Ford DID make a RWD Lincoln and it did win critical praise, until Caddy launched the CTS the V8 Lincoln LS was quite the praise hound. But the 3.9L V8 was weak and the price was to high for the timing. The planned larger RWD Lincoln Continental would have brought some parts/cost sharing to the table (the DEW98 chassis was mostly shared with the Jaguar S-type but had lots of lower cost materials in suspension and other pieces that made it unique). But what killed the Lincoln LS and DEW98 chassis was internal struggles within Ford.

Honestly the market would likely be a lot different today if DEW had continued on into the Ford family. It likely would have replaced the aging panther cars (Crown Vic, Gran Marquis, and Towncar) and possibly would have replaced the Falcon in Australia. The Continental would have beat the Chrysler LX cars (300 and Charger) to market by 2+ years.

No problem. Although word has it that the next Falcon will ride on an enlarged upcoming Mondeo platform CD4 (IIRC).

Call it a Maverick or a Falcon. Dont try and pass it off as a Mustang.
