Infiniti Seeks To Expand Performance Portfolio Plans To Add Mid-Engine Sports Car
Infiniti is looking into new vehicle segments, including a mid-engine sports car and a more robust performance line, as it takes steps to boost dealer volume.

The Japanese luxury line last month revealed a plug-in hybrid mid-engine concept sports car called the Emerg-E at the Geneva auto show. Rather than merely making a design splash with it, the company now is weighing whether to build the car, says Ben Poore, Infiniti Americas vice president.

So the Infiniti GT-R isn't going to happen? Bad move.

If the mid-engined Infiniti is simply a mid-engined reconfigured GT-R I don't think to many would be disappointed in its performance.

Um... are you suggesting that the GT-R chassis is capable of being mid-engined without being inherently pathetic? It's a front-engine design! A Versa's engine could be crammed where the back seats currently are at best!

No I am saying the drivetrain could be reconfigured so the current front mid engined setup is now rear mid engined. So the engine is essentially the same, the transmission gets modified a lot. Who wouldn't like a GT-R with lower weight and a rear biased weight distribution?

No way could it work. And even if it could, why would it weigh less? it would be heavier due to the luxury equipment.

Let Acura put out the NSX. Match it against the GT-R and the truth will be told. Infinity doesn't need a Mid-Engine.
