NEW YORK AUTO SHOW: Embargo Gets Broken And The BMW X1 Is A Reality - Is This What You've Been Waiting For?
If you saw Agent 009's post earlier, you weren't seeing a mirage. That's the real deal. BMW's X1 was set to be unveiled at the New York Auto Show until a publication went ahead and broke the Bavarian's strict embargo.

The X1 IS a big deal for several major reasons:

1) Folks have been waiting for the X1's arrival for quite some time at this point. It was suppose to debut earlier; however, due to popularity abroad BMW couldn't build them fast enough -- literally.

2) Finally, BMW will have a product that squares up DIRECTLY with Audi's highly popular Q5. One thing though, it's less expensive than the Q5.

3) It's a huge volume seller abroad and we expect it to be JUST as popular in the States. You know how BMW sells 328is like hot cakes? That's where the X1 sDrive28i comes in. Starting at under $32,000 and equipped with rear-wheel drive, we're sure there will be a good amount of takers.

Ultimately, it comes down to YOU though.

Are you impressed or are you less than thrilled about the BMW X1?

"Finally, BMW will have a product that squares up DIRECTLY with Audi's highly popular Q5."

The X3 competes with the Q5, X1 competes with Q3...

Well, that's not an easy call.

People compare vehicles based on $, not what marketing language tells them.

X3 xDrive28i will start at $33-34k, Q5 2.0 = $35k.

True BMW has more pricing power, but the X1 x28i starts at $33,245, the Q5 starts at $35,600 and the X3 starts at 37,100K. The difference between the X3 and Q5 is $1500, the difference between the X1 x28i and Q5 is $2,355. So I still disagree the X3 and Q5 are in the same segment.

On a side note the X1 with the 3.o turbo should be surprisingly quick!

Yeah, wasn't the original X3 the size of the current X1? with all these models getting bigger with each generation, it's hard to keep track of what models compete with what.

The Q5 looks so much better. It's just a sexier car than the X1.

BMW needs to stop finding ways to whore out it's brand

Nice refresh. This is the most popular SUV in Europe, it should be quite successful in the US.

Even costing at least twice as much, it is very popular here in Brazil
