Does VAG need a motorcycle builder, now no, in the future, yes! Motorcycles are already the major mode of transportation in many countries. Besides, out of the three Luxury Germany marques, VAG is the one with no two wheel experience.

P.S.

You know an all-electric Ducati can not be far away.

My mistake, AutoUnion was comprised of Motorcycle manufacturing elements. Drive8 gets the star.

What?

Audi was involved with motorcycles under NSU/DKW (2 of the 4 four rings). I think NSU was one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world in it's day.

Motorcycles are a major mode of transportation - but usually they are cheap little crappy bikes that people throw around.

It will be interesting to see how this all develops.

Why is Audispies covering motorcylecs now? Too bad bulding a bike a hundred years ago will not translate into anything beneficial today...

"One source said Ducati's debt was well below 200 million euros in an acquisition analysts said lacked obvious benefits for premium carmaker Audi and did little but polish Piech's reputation as a collector of rare and exotic brands.

"The Ducati purchase is driven by VW's passion for nameplates rather than industrial or financial logic," said Arndt Ellinghorst, analyst at London-based Credit Suisse."

Buy a Japanese company. Ducati is over rated.
