If Suzuki Went Away, Would Anyone Notice?

When Hummer left this world, there was much applause.

During Pontiac’s slow death, there was much reminiscing and sadness.

During Saab’s (continuing) downfall, there was much protest.

If Suzuki goes down, will there be much… of anything at all?

No doubt about it, Suzuki makes a fine automobile. They are dependable, affordable, and lately, even stylish and sporty. Unfortunately, most of the vehicles it offers in the U.S. are outdated and blown away by the competition. The Kizashi is the lone star right now, a fine entry in the midsize sedan market. The SX4 and Grand Vitara, though, are in desperate need of a refresh.

Americans have a tendency of thinking that the rest of the world doesn't exist. The fact that the article compares Suzuki to Pontiac or Hummer reinforces that point.

But to answer your question? Suzuki is virtually "away" already in the U.S market.

So your saying that it is OK for Americans the think that the rest of the world doesn't exist? WOW! And people wonder why the rest of the planet hates Americans? LOL!!!

“Jesus Christ, why must I SPELL everything out for you? Are you that dense??!! The US has literally OWNED and defined the automotive segment of which, wait for it....Suzuki, Pontiac and Hummer are a part of. When you are the leader for ONE HUNDRED STRAIGHT YEARS, the rest of the world is secondary in importance to anyone marketing or selling vehicles. “

- So in your mind that means that every other country that produces cars shouldn’t be acknowledged? Saying that "if Suzuki went away", and comparing them to Pontiac and Hummer is beyond stupid. Suzuki didn’t go away. They still ship vehicles to other parts of the planet. Pontiac and Hummer do not ship cars anywhere any more (they actually went away). But the typical dumb American (like you) only pays attention to what is in his bubble and thinks that Suzuki leaving America is the same as if they went out of business. LOL!!!

“When people point out Lexus dominating the US lux market since launch, you know why that is impressive? BECAUSE THE US IS THE LARGEST LUXURY AUTO MARKET ON THE PLANET!!!! And they did it against companies that had a combined 250+ years in the field!”

- Dominating the U.S market isn’t dominating the world. Oh… I forgot. The U.S.A is all that counts, and the fact that other manufacturers (the ones with "250+ years in the field!") can sell cars in volume where Lexus can’t doesn’t matter to you and isn’t important because it isn’t in America. Dude, the more I read your viewpoints, the more I realize why the rest of the world hates Americans. It's people like you who ignore that the rest of the planet exists. You are an “Ugly American”.

pondosinatra,

Is there an actual point in there somewhere? And why are you bringing up crap that we're not even talking about? Well... Since your doing that. Do you still think that a Lambo Aventador is only good in a straight line? LOL!!

This is what makes you look like a fool:

"...Americans have a tendency of thinking that the rest of the world doesn't exist" - Lexsucks

"Being a superpower and (up until last year) the largest automobile market in the world for over a CENTURY....yeah, I could see why we'd think that." - pondosinatra

You just admitted that the only thing that matters is America. You Stated that; "yeah, I could see why we'd think that". Well... let me break it to you buddy, thinking like that makes you (and anyone else that thinks like that) a self centered moron.

Suzuki's vehicles are all ugly and cheaply made. I have co-workers that drive them and spend more time on the phone fighting with shotty service agreements trying to get repairs done than they do actually working. I'll never drive one of these ugly cars. I'd buy a used Accord any day over a new Suzuki of any body style.

wow,I had to sign up just to respond. SUPERPOWER! Thats a big word, bet you feel great throwing it around. AMERICA SUPERPOWER! Yea, no, doesn't work for me. LexSucks you are spot on. Recently Motor Trend ran an article pointing out that Lexus and Infinty are failures as car companies. Their ONLY real market is America. Their sales volumes are actually VERY low for a global car company. Acura is in even worse conditon. Many Acura models have lower monthly sales figure then Suzuki vehicles. Acrua, Infinity, and Lexus combined global sales are a fraction of Suzukis global sales. And others around the world opt not to buy these cars from Japan. Having good sales in Amercia is NOT the end all. The Kizashi is an excellent vehicle. Hopefully Suzuki can build on this great car.

That's right pondosinatra, the only thing that matters is America. The fact that Lexus can't even sell cars in volume anywhere else in the world (while other brands don't have that issue) doesn't matter.

Dude, The fact that you are ignoring the other 95% of the world? Tells me that you are an idiot.

The simple fact that you will not address Lexuses' complete lack of sales anywhere other than America means that you are ignoring the rest of the world. Even now, despite being pressed, you will not address that fact THAT LEXUS ISN’T A COMPETITIVE BRAND WORLDWIDE. Let me ask you this; Is Lexus Competitive worldwide with the brands in which it competes against? For some reason you dodge around that question. Why? BECAUSE YOU IGNORE THE REST OF THE PLANET. Get over yourself.

I hope Suzuki doesn't exit as they build fine and undervalued vehicles.

That they don't sell in America yet are still among the top ten automakers worldwide and would still be even if they ceased selling in the U.S. kind of drives home the point that they don't need this largely stagnant and saturated market to be successful. As they have been virtually every year for six decades.
