BEIJING MOTOR SHOW: How Do You Compete In A Copycat Culture?

China is the land of fake products. Fake Rolexes, fake Ralf Lauren Polo shirts and even fake Apple iPads, you can get them all in Beijing. And it's the same when it comes to cars.

There are many Chinese companies which borrow‚ bits of designs from other European and Japanese car makers, and many are being proudly displayed at the Beijing Motor Show pretty much alongside the very cars they are copying.

For instance there's a saloon from Englon Automobile which has a face that has clearly been styled to look like a Bentley Mulsanne. And there's a Chery that, shall we say, bears more than a passing resemblance to a Mercedes C-Class.

Even today at the Beijing Motor Show they is the real deal set up next to an unauthorized cloned copy one booth over.

I understand many pacific rim cultures look at items and refine with minor changes, however a complete copy?

The Koreans and Japanese has moved away from that a long time ago but the Chinese have started the cycle all over again.

What I am (not Chinese) does not take away from the fact that the article is highly opinionated and the Copies have been going on for years... YEARS! so this adds nothing NEW to the table...

Do you two see what I am getting to? Its like reporting that this fall, there will be football. Yes, its true, but it has been true for the past 50 years. So what has changed? How does this article differ from one a few years back?

Well, both the Japanese and Koreans started by "refining" existing products, then they start developing their own design signatures. I'd say we'll probably see something original from the Chinese in about 2-3 product cycles.

Embarrassing so at the end they show to the people fake copies without any legal sanction or nothing. What is going on this days.

Remember, what's immoral over here is not wrong in a strange, pagan culture.
