Subaru Considering A Turbo BRZ - Scion Rules Out A Similar Performance Option For FR-S

Neither of the jointly developed Subaru-Toyota sports cars will be turbocharged, at least in the near future. Sources we’ve spoken with at both companies have confirmed that for the time being, both the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S will come with only the naturally aspirated, 2.0-liter inline four; it’s rated at 200 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque.

The news gets worse, we’re afraid. Although the door is open to a possible turbocharged BRZ in the future, we’ve been told it’s unlikely we’ll ever see a factory-built Scion FR-S with forced induction in the U.S. It’s possible that Toyota still could offer a turbocharged car in other markets, though, where the car runs with 86 and GT86 badging.

Why is the US car market getting constantly short-changed when it comes to options? Are we such cheapskates? Especially Toyota and to a lesser extend Subaru have a chance here to attract younger and passionate drivers with this car and they are squandering it even before the car is out.

no Turbo is a huge mistake, I will never look at this underpowered car seriously

You know this is an H-4, right? NOT inline.

Designed for and inspired by Tokyo Drift car racing but I would have preferred an AWD manual transmission like the Subaru WRX STI Limited but that would have never reached the 25K price threshold.

I thought this was going to be my car but now I think I'll find a nice S2000 for fun on the weekends. I understand the car and its purpose but they should offer a 250hp+ variant and keep it under 30-32k. A car like this should be at least 6.5 second 0-60 and be more powerful than a Civic SI or VW GTI.
