Uh Oh! Could The Agents FAVORITE Porsche 911 Be Going The Way Of The Dodo?

Uh Oh! Could The Agents FAVORITE Porsche 911 Be Going The Way Of The Dodo?
As we already know, the Porsche 991 911 impressed Agent 001 beyond belief. It looks better than ever, performs better than ever and sounds "better than a Ferrari," according to 001.

And that's just the coupes.

If you've been following us closely you'd know by now that we are in LOVE with 911 Targas. There's something about the way that Porsche modifies the C-Pillar in the 996 and 997 variants that make it look just right.

Oddly enough though, the Targa has never gained traction -- from a sales perspective -- in the States. Folks likely just opt for the coupe or the cabrio without giving the Targa a proper look. That's fine by us, we like rare birds around here.

But we noticed something interesting the other day while cruising the 911 configurator. There are now TWO sunroof options on the 991:

1) A steel sunroof
2) A glass sunroof

If you take a look at the latter, it's not your typical sunroof. In fact, it looks very similar to how you would imagine the Targa would look -- pictures below.

This, of course, has us speculating if the Targa's days are numbered.

What say you?

Is the 997 911 Targa the last of a long line of the Agent's "perfect" 911?

Moving to a better Car news place. Sorry, oo1. I loved your site when I was serving in the Navy many years ago and have been a loyal reader. But you've taken the wrong turn and you did not bother to listen. You should get back to your roots.

You've got to be joking. Instead of discussing something actually interesting, you'd rather post a story that points to a buff book who's having yet another pissing contest between a 911 and GT-R over the tenths of a second in times.

In other news, thank you for your service to our great nation.

00R, I wasn't talking to you. But, you're welcome! I don't think you were around, but when this site started, it used to live up to its name. It was different than most car sites because it would try to find things that no other site had (like spying) and that was mega cool. and i've been waiting for you guys to get your sh*t together again and do more spying or find more spy shots. Now every time i see something in Autospies, it almost always seems that i see it a day before at Yahoo. I'm a loyal man and obviously i haven't left you guys but you tempting me to leave every day. I know it's all about the Benjamins but if you become just another site of the same crap i guarantee you you'll be counting Washingtons.

I have a Targa and yes its my favourite looking version of the 997 series. My only issues are the roof does crackle on very cold days. I think its a great idea for Porsche to release a glass roof option however its nothing as flexible as the real Targa (was/is) with the rear opening hatch that made golf club loading/unloading super easy!

Have a feeling the "new" Targa, if they make one, will have removable panels.
