Based On YOUR Opinion And Experience, WHO Makes The MOST Reliable Premium Vehicles Today?
A few years ago this question would have been a no brainer and the name Lexus would have been at the top of the list.

In the heyday, NO ONE built a more reliable car in HISTORY.

But in today's game EVERYONE has stepped it up and have not only equaled Lexus quality in some cases but maybe even topped it on certain models.

Seems like just about EVERYONE in the premium space has bought a JD Power award or two these days...(sorry, inside Auto Spies joke, we couldn't resist!)

We want to to know your opinion and personal experience on this subject.

Is Lexus STILL the king or is someone else impressing you more?

Please give us REAL examples and models you fancy for their RELIABILITY.

Spies, discuss...

This is the internet right? So I guess I'll say that because I have no experience.....here's my opinion: BMW is the best cause they are the super duper coolest.

That was fun.

all the major premium carmakers make incredibly well-built cars compared to years ago. you hardly ever seen ANY car broken down on the road these days. so it's pretty much a moot question.

Currently I drive a BMW 118i and aside from a faulty distributer (which BMW doesn't produce) I've had no issues. The car starts up every morning and has never left me stranded.

My parents are Benz owners, always have been and those cars were and are great. Zero reliability issues including a W211 E320 which never had any problems except for a dead battery after not being used for two weeks in the winter.

BlackDynamiteMB are you sure you have your facts right? I am thinking about trading my 2008 LS for a new 535i. LEXUS has replaced my rotors twice on my car but according to them it because I drive the car too hard. Never owned a BMW though but my friends do look happy with them.

I would get the new GS instead of the 5 series, other that a solid body structure their is not much to get excited about on the BMW.

Says the guy who has probably driven neither.

The Asians make a more reliable car, no question. I prefer BMW, but they better get the electric power steering fixed. I drove a new '5' and yechh!!

my family has owned just about every luxury brand in the past few years, seeing as we are not badge specific buyers. I think MB and BMW have always been engineered well in terms of safety, but I have to question there reliability sometimes. To me it seems the Asian luxury brands don't push the envelope as much in terms of technology so they seem to be more reliable, with that said Lexus has fallen some from the top rank in my opinion. Bmw makes a great performing car, but as I have learned with my 2011 335i X-drive, maybe not the most reliable nor best fit and finish. The black paint on the beemer is the worst paint after 6 months that I have ever cared for. Some might find this laughable but I think Buick and even Cadillac make a pretty darn reliable luxury car. Emphasis on Buick who has in some ways taken lexus's spot on the consumer reports pedestal. Funny thing is reliability in luxury cars usually only matters to the second owner who gets the grunt of problems. Just my two cents

Lexus recommends servicing their cars every 5000 miles or six months whichever comes first which is more than twice as often as its competitors.

It's the luck of the draw -- I could have a BMW with no issues and my neighbor could have one that is in the shop constantly...as stated above, manufacturers are all making very well built vehicles now...

Had two lemon lawed GM cars in past decade so scratch GM from any reliability list.

Acura I have had a MDX, TSX V6 and a ZDX and they have all been flawless. Great gas mileage also.

Porsche makes an incredibly reliable car for seemingly 3 reasons: 1) the sports cars get typically get driven infrequently; 2) their technology is somewhat sparse and a generation on behind so there is less to go wrong; and 3) the average porsche owner is simply not that tech savvy/sophisticated (read: too old) to notice when something has gone wrong. How do you know if your navigation is broken if you never use it?

Vermont's slogan is: Vermont is what america was - the same applies to Porsche cars in a good way. Hence, they're reliable. Lets see how the hybrids fare over time.

I am going to throw my 2 cents in. I have had 2 Lexus vehicles with zero issues over the years. I currently have an X5 from new that I enjoy driving very much. It, however, has been to the dealership at least 10 times with relatively minor issues, other than a leaking radiator which had to be replaced, as well as having to change completely a faulty driver side seat and railing system. Once the warranty runs out, I will likely change the vehicle as owning a German car is great, but do not do it if there is no warranty.

I think both BMW and MB are very reliable and very safe brands, especially now a days. The thing we have to realize is they come up with new ideas and new technology so yes at first it’s not 100% smooth, it does have issues then few years down the road those technologies (after the second or sometimes third version) trickle down to other brands and they work better from the start on those brands, making the original clunky and not user friendly. And a lot of times it’s our (the users) fault. If you know, what I mean.

I have had problems with GM, German and Asian cars that I have owned. All had problems but I will stay with the marque that provided the superior repair service experience.
I believe it is fortune that helps determine if you will have a problem free ownership term with your car.
