2014 Mazda6 will drop V-6 engine
V6 engines were once favored over four cylinders because of their inherent power but Mazda and other automakers no longer practice this. Mazda will no longer install V-6 engines at its Mazda6 sedan for the third-generation 2014 model year in favor of the equally powerful and yet more fuel efficient four-cylinder engines.

This is the chance for Mazda to turn it around. I love the "Takeri Concept" and if the new 6 is even 80% similar to it, it will be like a home run for Mazda. Don't get me wrong, I really like the exterior design of the current 6, it stands out….but the interior is very boring and cheap looking. That’s one place it really need helps. As far as power goes, I hope it’s a Force induction variant of the skyactiv engine currently in use in the new CX5 and the 3, or at-least slightly bigger displacement, producing at least 250+ hp. I mean look at the Kia Optima 274hp and 269 TQ from 1750 rpm (just for reference).
Bring the Zoom Zoom back Mazda!!!

hardly a surprise since the v6 was gutless to begin with

Not sure if you've driven the current V6 in the Mazda 6 but the last thing I would call it is Gutless. The current model has 270 HP and same torque.

Now the older model V6 was def gutless @ 220 HP. But that was the older model.

Probably because V6 and I-4 engines have seen there displacement increase in the last 10 years and the 4 banger is good enough considering mandated eco requirements.

Likely will have a turbo DI as the top engine. Should make for a smaller car overall since there will be less package protection for a 4T vs an V6.
