Marchionne Warns Striking Autoworkers That Contract Negotiations May Be Impacted By Their Actions

Chrysler Group CEO Sergio Marchionne issued a warning to Canadian auto workers whose strike at a supplier shut down production at the automaker's minivan assembly plant today.

About 190 Dakkota Integrated Systems employees, represented by Canadian Auto Workers Local 444, struck the supplier after rejecting a proposed contract agreement on Sunday, the Windsor Star newspaper reported. Dakkota assembles instrument panels for the Windsor Assembly Plant's Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.

"This is not the way to build a car company," Marchionne said. "If this is the beginning of and a demonstration of the willingness of the part of our friends on the other side of the border to carry out… if that’s the basis on which we’re going to move forward, I think we’re going to have a very difficult round of negotiations."
