BMW Attempts To Redefine The Crossover Market, But Does The X1 Have What It Takes?
In case you haven't noticed a new salvo of crossovers is on the way from the luxury automakers.

These aren't large scale behemoths that your can haul the whole soccer team in, nor are they midsized small family oriented vehicle that are so perfect for both navigating the urban jungle and taking on the local home improvement store.

These newest entries are even smaller yet, tapping into markets that were only available to only to those with the occasional need haul around a few items here and there but not really giving the features for enjoyable everyday driving.

While all three of the German luxury brands have one in the works, the first one to make to the US will be the BMW X1.

Will the X1 carve out a niche in a market typically known for large cruisers that get 15 miles per gallon? Can the X1 and the competition be the catalyst to start a new class of vehicles that will define the next generation or crossovers?

Look through our latest gallery of the BMW X1 and tell us if they are on the right track,.

This looks more like a wagon than an SUV.

At $2.00 a gallon, Americans will go for the X5.
At $4.00 a gallon, Americans will opt for the X3.
At $6.00 a gallon, there'll be plenty lining up for the X1
At $10.00 a gallon, they'll be driving bicycles.

BMW has SUV overkill...this is ridiculous for the U.S. I can see this doing well in Europe for smaller streets, though.

The X3 has done well in Europe and will do well here since it allows almost anyone aspiring to own a BMW to do so. The X3 used to be that SAV but it has grown both in price and size.
