VIDEO: Watch The Audi A3 Through The Years - Should The Next-Gen Car Get A Radical Revamp?

When Audi said it was going to bring the A3 to the U.S., I wondered for a bit "Why?"

Not because it's a bad car but because would there really be a business case for a vehicle that's essentially an Audi-fied Volkswagen Golf? Well, apparently there was and still is.

That has only increased with Audi shipping over the highly coveted TDI clean diesel units, which account for somewhere around 50 percent of sales.

But over the years and spanning three generations, there isn't much difference in the design department. While Audi typically takes some heat for its minor, evolutionary design changes, the A3 is likely the least changed product out of the lot of them.

That said, when the next-gen vehicle makes its debut in around six or seven years, should Audi give us a radical design instead the same old rehashed A3?

Only if the entire Audi lineup gets a "dramatic revamp" or atleast more class distinctive design.

I was thinking the next A3 to show up in the U.S would be a new sedan

That's my understanding as well. I would guess that the Q2 currently under development is going to replace the A3 Sportback for the American market.
