Obama Claims Automakers Would Have Failed Under Romney's Plan
President Barack Obama rejected rival Mitt Romney's claim he deserves credit for the turnaround of the U.S. auto industry and said automakers would have collapsed under Romney's plan.

Republican presumptive nominee Mitt Romney told a Cleveland TV station Monday he deserves "a lot of the credit" for revival of Detroit's Big Three automakers.

"I think this is one of his Etch-a-Sketch moments. I don't think anybody takes that seriously," Obama told ABC News. "People remember his position, which was, 'Let's let Detroit go bankrupt' and his opposition to government — government involvement in making sure that GM and Chrysler didn't go under."

It's all too easy to take credit for disasters that didn't happen. In fact, I'm surprised that news crews aren't on my door step for me having prevented WW III in the early part of the 21st Century.

I respect Chrysler returning the bailout loans and good for them they're coming back in the game, but their product line is still incompetent. And as for GM I really wish it went bankrupt and disappeared from the face of Earth. Their cars are just garbage!! As for Ford, even that their products are garbage too, but at least they didn't depend on any bailout money.

Ford cars and trucks are not garbage. What rock did you crawl out of. Chrysler on the other hand I agree with. It is just now with in the last 4 years actually make cars consumers will buy.
It's called capitalism, so if Chrysler failed it was their own fault. Make cars people want to buy. Many companies in America dont make it or fail and Chrysler should have been no different.

Again, Chrysler didn't fail because they were building cars buyers didn't want. Diamlers management was totally responsible for Chryslers position. It was Chryslers profitt that saved merc. Again Screw Diamler!!

Blazinboy, Diamler does NOT own any stake in Chrysler. Diamler was forced to release all interest in Chrysler when the Cerebus deal went down. And as far as the LX platform of today, Chrysler engineers have improved on it so much, nothing is interchangeable. The only thing today is the suv platform and that is not 100% interchangeable to MB. The good is eventually Chrysler will be independent of MB as far as parts sharing. And I hope MB enjoys the platform that Chryslers SRT engineers designed and engineered for them [SLS AMG]. The reason Chrysler has Great products today is the fact Diamler is NOT calling the shots. Good riddance to Diamler.
