Nissan Wants To Dethrone Camry From Top Spot With New Altima
Nissan Motor Co. is betting its new Altima will be the ultimate weapon in its battle to top rival Toyota in the hard-fought market for family sedans.

The fifth generation Altima began U.S. production on Tuesday, May 15 and goes on sale in U.S. dealerships this summer. It has a shot at becoming the most popular sedan in the U.S., having already passed Honda's Accord in sales. Now the company hopes it will out-sell Toyota's No. 1 Camry within a year.

Nissan, long renowned for excellent engineering, is working hard to overcome a legacy of uninspired marketing that hasn't made much of a dent in Toyota's and Honda's sales. Nissan long made well-regarded vehicles that had difficulty reaching the front ranks of consumer awareness.

I like the new Altima and hope it does well. With relatively good gas millage (27City,38Hwy) I think this will be a winner. Now it all depends on the pricing/options.

Trying to beat the Camry and Accord is like looking in the rearview mirror. Passat and Sonata are the new competition.

Nissan is apparently hoping for more tsunamis and floods, cuz that's the only way they will come even close to overtaking the Camry.

It's gonna happen, both Toyota and Honda have dropped the ball in terms of brand enthusiasm and design. Currently Nissan offers the most exciting lineup compared to its Japanese rivals with the likes of the 370z, GTR, and even Maxima.

Nissan Altima #1 for 2013, look forward to seeing the Coupe.

I dont like nissan as far as I could pick one up and throw it, but if they could overtake the yawnry, I'd be all for it; anything that means less dullards and drones behind the wheel of them, driving too slow in the fast lane.

I know it wont happen though. They seemed to have gone to great lengths to design a well-packaged car with high content. But the lemmings dont care; they arent looking at features, or mileage, or any further than the name on the trunk.

Before Nissan dethrones Toyota, it better look in the rear view mirror and see that Kia and Hyundai are in the passing lane.
