What Is the Best SUV Out There For The Buck?
America's definition of the SUV has changed over the past decade. Once upon a time, they were big, trucklike gas hogs that could go anywhere and do almost anything. Today, however, they have evolved into smaller, more carlike vehicles that go easier on gas, and consequently are better for the environment and softer on the wallet. Unfortunately, they are also slightly less capable.

Regardless, the masses still refer to these new vehicles as SUVs, and they are one of the fastest-growing vehicle segments on the market.

Nothing will ever beat the Chevy Surburban. It can carry upto 9 passengers and their luggage in style and safety. It handles beter than many cars.It was the first SUV and the longest running nameplate for a reason. In most of the newer wanabees you have to struggle with luggage. If you use all the seats you do not have room for luggage.

The Suburban is an SUV? I see the "UV" but where's the "S"?

Handles better than many cars? You are on crack if you believe that. Sure it has a third row, if your passengers like their knees in their chest, a problem that passengers in my Smaller LR3 don't have to experience. The Expedition EL has a far more comfortable third row, as does the Armada, and most others because unlike the Suburban, they have independent rear suspension, allowing the floor to be lower so the passengers in the third row don't have to live with a seat that is only a couple of inches taller than the floor, making them with with their knees in their chest. If I wanted something that big, I'd get an Expedition EL, which, by the way handles better. Luxurywise, I would go with a Mercedes Benz GL class, or better yet, an R class, which is more comfortable and has far more leg room and comfort for second and third row passengers. And trust me, unlike many here who speak from their behinds, I cross shopped all of these vehicles when I got my wife her LR3. The exterior of the R class was the only thing that didn't win her over. It was far more practical than the others, rode great and felt like being in a private jet. It maneuvered better than any SUV, rode better, and got better fuel economy with the diesel. It also easily out-handled them all, and for that it would have been my choice if I needed something roomy that can haul people without being huge hulking and unnecessarily high. It was like the offspring if an SUV, minivan and wagon had a kid. The only advantage the suburban has that I can see is cargo hauling room, and if I needed a vehicle for that I would get a Mercedes Sprinter diesel, which can seat more, haul more and gets almost 30 mpg.

A Suburban handles better than many cars? What kind of Suburban are you talking about. 9 people is a Suburban? It's usually one or two fat asses jumping curbs at the mall.

Pass on an SUV and buy a station wagon. Drive like a car with excellent mpg and has huge volume. A win-win.
