The entire BMW heritage and fortune was built on the venerable straight 6 engine. With the new high technology available, BMW's engineers will have the new 6 pumping out more HP (but not torque) than the current V8.

Look at what BMW has done with their 'old' boxer motorcycle engine. With new heads, the boxer was reborn with huge horsepower improvement. Same will be done with the high performance 6 for the M series.
