The 10 MOST Expensive Cars To Own - Would You STILL Get One Anyway?

The 10 MOST Expensive Cars To Own - Would You STILL Get One Anyway?
So it's pretty much a give in that luxury automobiles are expensive to snap up. But, there's a difference between the initial cost to own a vehicle and then the TRUE cost. You see, the TRUE cost are all those little things you likely aren't thinking about as your heart is racing in the showroom.

Leave it to a finance publication to really hash out the details and get to the bottom of it.

That said, we'll list the initial five, let's see if you can figure out the remaining five -- without cheating.

10. Nissan GT-R

9. Range Rover

8. BMW 7-Series ActiveHybrid

7. Mercedes-Benz G550

6. Lexus LS600h L

Now, can you guess the rest?

Are you surprised at 24/7 Wall Street's findings?

For example, an Audi R8 has a price tag of slightly more than $170,000. After five years, the costs of ownership of the R8 are an additional $193,500 on average. 24/7 Wall St. has examined the true cost of ownership, based on Edmunds.com calculations, for 2012 models sold in the United States, identifying the 10 cars that cost the most to own...

if you read the article, they're only looking at cars up to $200k that sell in significant volume. not rare exotics like that veyron that sell only a few dozen.

YES! they will still get one.
The individuals purchasing these cars at these price levels don't care about "true cost to own" or depreciation. Why even write an article about it? Now that the econnomy seems to be turning the corner and as seen by the latest auto sales figures, the number of these cars sold will continue to increase regardless.

Unless the bloody R8 owner decided to crash his R8 and managed to completely demolish it, and then go out and buy a brand new one with more options, how could he possibly rack up an extra $193,500 in ownership costs ?

Anybody who can drop that much cash on a car can afford it, or is going to be facing financial ruin.

Paid cash for my v10 R8 spyder - could care less that it gets an average of 15mpg. Insurance costs in NJ are just slightly higher than my outgoing 997 at $1600/year. As far as quality, my rating scale gives it a 6 on quality and design out of 5. Audi offers pre-paid maintenance plan covers all charges for oil changes and major tuneups and saves nearly 20% over paying for each maintenance visit separately. I'll keep the car through the warranty period and then trade it in at 4 years. Mad at your wife, kids or business partners? Go for a ride in a R8 with the top down and listen to that bellowing engine - saves me $30K/yr in shrink bills.

@pcar4evr - know exactly what you mean... putting the top down on your drive home makes all the BS one deals with during the day vanish, even for a while.
