Toyota pledges to improve quaility of vehicles, keep strong reputation

TOKYO -- For Shinichi Sasaki, it was a baptism by fire.

A month after being named Toyota Motor Corp.'s new quality czar, Sasaki spent two hours last week telling reporters how Toyota will improve the quality of its vehicles. He was responding to a safety recall that has Japanese police threatening criminal charges against Toyota managers.

The recall is just the latest event threatening the company's hard-won reputation for quality. Shaken, Toyota is reorganizing, reviewing its quality processes, stepping up its review of aging vehicles' service records and urging customers to report any problems to their dealers

I'm glad that Toyota is still humble in its ways, by "apologizing repeatedly." Eventhough recalls have doubled, they are still half the amount of recalls from their domestic counterparts. And you don't even see these other manufacturer's even coming close to apologizing.

Toyota realizes that they need to handle this issue quickly and decisively. They WILL do what ever it takes to stop the carnage. At least in that respect I can say they are now doing the right thing.

Reliability and Quality is the reason why people buy Toyota's all over the world. That is what you hear from people, analysts, and magazines all the time. Toyota needs to be focused on quality now and improve what debacle just happened in the last month or so, otherwise they truly will not be any different than GM.

Old news, come on Autopsies enough with the Toyota bashing. This is getting ridiculous. Toyota's latest recalls were for parts that hadnt even broken yet. Thats quality control, there's no need to apologize for that.

thanks for the clarification 001. Im not the most tech savvy, didnt realize the power individual users had to craft their own stories, often posing as news articles . I think from my several posts lately, tho, Plano realizes the comments are directed to him. Surely others have noticed this trend on this site however, just didnt realize where the toyota bashing was coming from.

Quality is what got Toyota where it is today. Hopefully they stick to their guns.
