What Is The Longest Amount Of Time You Owned A Car Before Throwing In The Towel?
Joking aside, knowing when to throw in the towel and buy a new car is a skill that needs to be well employed to stop you wasting money. Sometimes even the trustiest old friend needs to be waved off and sent to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Even newer cars that are running just fine can outstay their welcome when they no longer do the job you need them to. Cost, convenience and confidence are all good reasons to change your vehicle. Here are some of the important signs to look out for that might indicate it is time for a change.

Had a 1995 BMW 316i that I sold in 2007. It had 615,000kms on the clock.

My Dad drove the first 400k kms and gave it to me when I was in University.

Interior was still fine when I sold it but mechanically it was starting to hurt when it came to servicing. I loved that car.

97 Maxima with 225K miles on it. Just tired of driving the same car and thinking of getting something different.
Things I have done to maintain the car:
replace Shocks, rebuild axles, change wheel bearing, starter, muffler and just recently the water pump. The body has some rusts. Other than that it has been fairly solid with average on 27mpg.

1996 Accord. Bought it new on July 4 weekend. Just sold it the other day. 196K with very little in repairs over 16 years. Just the right size, sporty feel for an Asian car(made in USA), not ever a rattle, never left me stranded, C'mon Honda, ya still got it ???

1998 A4 with 225,000 after 10 years. no real issues to speak of

3 different GTI's all with over 100K and no real issues.

However I was ALWAYS inspecting the above and did my own oil changes so I always knew if anything would be amiss. Being hands on is probably why I so had little trouble.
