'07 Camry hybrid nice mostly but a bit pricey

Each new gasoline-electric hybrid seems to advance the breed — smoother, more interesting, more useful than what's come before. The 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid does that in some ways, but judged by the regular-production test car, it also has backslid.
The point of a hybrid is to provide better fuel economy than a similar gasoline model. The Camry hybrid is rated a commendable 40 miles per gallon in town, 38 on the highway, 39 mpg in combined driving. No others except small hybrids do better, not even tiny gasoline-power cars.

Camry never was and never will be pricey.
It's the perfect example of Value for money.

It's pricey because it offers everything which is needed or can be expected from the BEST FAMILY SEDAN.

The author questions the cost of the Hybrid vs savings and also he basically wonders if the price is right. Toyota for so long has produced a low cost car that was an exceptional fit in the segment. Now typically, they are the most expensive cars in their class. He does correctly agree it is a great car though.

I agree with Jugnu on the price thing. Even though the MSRP has gone up for the Camry, it has also added a lot of features that are found on Luxury brand cars. However, it will be cheaper to get the regular I4 Camry versus the Hybrid. The cost about $5k more and gets about 10mpg better fuel consumption. Hybrid is still only the show car, with the ooh factor.

sure part of the hybrid may be to save gas...but the main part that everyone should be caring about is the environment. The point is not how much money you save, its how many gallons of gas you save. Also emmisions, its a SULEV in california...common guys!

Yes it is nice to save gas and the environment, but does this car really help in those areas? Recently there was an article here showing that hybrids take an extreme amount of energy to make. Second, aren't the reg gas engines PZEV, which equals the hybrid. At last we have price. If you want good speed get the V6. It is much faster. Of course the Hybrid is good because it does all of things in one package. Best of all worlds.

Except for ANY diesel powered passenger car. A Renault Laguna 2.0 diesel with 172 horses beats this AND gets better CO2 emmissions... Not to forget: $3,800 cheaper

tier1, where do you live? we get the laguna in the uk but the camry was cancelled many moons ago.

ummm...perhaps any diesel car 5 series sized or smaller?
the 535d does 29 mpg and 0-62 in 6.3 seconds. the 525d does 0-62 7.8 seconds and gets 35 mpg. this hybrid seems like a waste of space and money.
all mpg figures are in american gallons which i bothered to covert from british for you guys

Toyota is going down the hill. Each year they increase their prices and now they r the most expensive in their class.
