Has anyone ever considered that they're all using a CVT and just increase the gear numbers for marketing purposes every couple yrs?

I think this number of gear game is getting childish. 7 speeds are more than enough! But, let's see how the German fan boys will start praising this when they didn't stop talking bad about Lexus with it's 8 speed transmission.

Swing and a miss....I don't think it is necessary and Lexus still blows

9 Speeds? probably save fuel but that thing is going to shift pretty much every time you press and depress the throttle.

With this many gears, why not go the CVT route?

My new Chrysler 300 has an 8 speed, and it is amazing the power and MPG this beast gets. Best transmission I have ever had, smooth, and great response. Would love to drive a S class with a 9 speed.

i had the lexus is-f for a year and HATED the 8 speed transmission ! that thing was always looking for the right gear, just annoying.. ( i was getting 25mpg on the highway with cc set at 75mph)

i enjoy my m3 with 7speed dct more and believe it or not, i actually liked the 6speed SMG on the e46 more than both the 7 and 8 speed transmissions.. maybe im weird but i just liked the quick violent shifts, too many gears = constant annoying shifting
